New Orleans

I live about an hour away from New Orleans so we go for the day and don't usually get a hotel. When we do, I book it through Priceline making one of those "name your own price" bids. There's a great website that helps you figure out what to bid, on which star quality hotel, in which zone, to get you the hotel you want at the right price. Love this site!:

http://www.biddingfortravel.com - page down to the Hotels section and look for Louisiana - New Orleans

Also, we use this website to find discounted entertainment and restaurant GCs (not much available now but new items are added Friday mornings and the GCs are snail-mailed to you):

And of course you can keep an eye out on the Groupons for the New Orleans area but double-check reviews on TripAdvisor to be sure they're for nice restaurants.

We LOVE Dickie Brennan's steakhouse, and the poboys at Cafe Maspero are humongous and very reasonably priced!

If you are looking at something other than a hotel, the Green House Inn is excellent! A big old house turned B&B, we fell in love with the place and can't wait to go back! Of all the places we've visited, NO was one of our favorites! Have fun!! O, and if are looking for a cool place to hang out, the Cat's Meow takes Kareoke to a whole new level, we ended up there 3 of the 4 nights we stayed!

Another vote for the Monteleone. When DH and I stayed there, we had drinks in their Carousel Bar--if you do so, be aware that the bar revolves. If you go for a bathroom break, getting back to your original seat at the bar can be tricky!

We always stay in the Marigny/Fauberg section. It is at the edge of the French Quarter so it's not much of a walk to Bourbon st. It's a lot cheaper than most FQ proper hotels, and it's in the artsy neighborhood. Two of NOLAs best/underratered restaurants are in the Marigny, Snug Harbor and Port of Call. I highly recommend you at least research this area. Hotels are The Frenchmen and the Lamothe House.

We have stayed at the Staybridge and Doubletree for last years Saints games. Both were very nice. The Staybridge also has a hot free breakfast. Deanie's has the best seafood in town!

We decided on Wyndham in the French Quarter. We leave this Friday :cool1:, any must do??

drink.

I recommend an afternoon on the patio at Paddy O'Brian's with a hurricane in hand. Or a daiquiri. Not the night, too busy at night.
