My DH's architecture firm will be designing the new "Nickelodeon Resorts by Marriott." The first property is expected to be a 650-room resort at Liberty Station in San Diego, which will incorporate a 100,000 square-foot water park and activity deck complex featuring a variety of pools and interactive attractions. The properties will cater to families with children but will also appeal to fun-seeking business groups and individuals, creating a unique marriage of Marriott's superb hospitality with Nickelodeon's dynamic and trend-setting entertainment. Guests will experience Nick-themed resort activities throughout the hotel. This resort is scheduled to open in 2010.

A signature component to each resort will be a wide variety of attractions ranging from state-of-the-art pools and water features (indoor water parks will be featured elements in cooler destination markets), plus live entertainment programs featuring popular costumed Nickelodeon characters like Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants. "Studio Nick," a main stage theater space equipped with state-of-the-art lighting, sound and video will anchor the resorts' live entertainment programs. Studio Nick's innovative design will allow the resort to concurrently stage several different full- scale live productions for resort guests, and will also provide an unparalleled platform for daytime meeting events.

Resort guests will be pampered with convenient and luxurious onsite vacation services including a full service spa and fitness center, a variety of quality dining and lounge options, private poolside cabanas and an "adults only" lap pool. The hotels will also include meeting space and comprehensive business services designed to accommodate and appeal to group business. Group events will be managed by Marriott's professional meeting planners and the destination will offer facilities accommodating two 300-person groups, and incorporating, on average, 30,000 square feet of meeting space. During non- group meeting periods, these facilities will host "Nick after Dark" events, as well as themed parties.

Each individual "Nickelodeon Resorts by Marriott" will feature guest rooms and suites that cater to the unique needs of families including multi-bedroom suites, HDTV's and Marriott's new signature "plug in" technology. Pleasantly styled "kids' suites" will be themed with Nick's most popular hit properties creating an environment that kids will call home while staying at the resort.

In addition to a variety of restaurant options, the "NickToons Café" will provide a casual and friendly environment-the ideal setting for daily "character" breakfasts as well as special evenings. Buffet options and simple menu items will also be available, as well as a bustling "grab & go" area hosting chain food vendors offering a variety of meal choices, including healthy food options, and an on site convenience store for guests on the move.

Retail offerings will be a key element of the guest experience, with Nick- themed retail items available that are exclusive to the resort, as well as a "Nick Pix" photo studio and Nick.com Cyberzone, where kids and families can safely surf Nick.com and Nickjr.com content online, and view resort-specific information. A large game room featuring the latest and most popular video and traditional table top games will be available for all resort guests looking for added family entertainment and interaction.

The plan is for Marriott to put up to 20 resorts by 2020. No other info. has been given regarding where they will be built, there were only given the location of the first one. I thought this was interesting news too as it will give many an alternative to the Orlando Nick hotel.

when we were staying there the manager of the pool restaurant mentioned there were 3 of them on the go that she knew of. I still prefer the one in Florida though:goodvibes

I would imagine any place where there is a Paramount park such as CAROWINDS on the SC/NC border would get one...its all nickelodeon...

The current Nick hotel is at a Holiday inn. I wonder why they are expanding with Marriot and not Holiday inn. Do you think this will effect the Nick hotel in Orlando at all?

Perhaps they are not happy with Holiday Inn? Don't know. I've never stayed at the Nick Hotel in Orlando, but I see that recent reviews of the place aren't all that great. I suppose Marriott is considered more "upscale." I doubt this venture will change anything in Orlando as it appears that one has nothing to do with the other(s).

I have reservations in October for the Nick hotel. I wonder if there will be any changes before then. I'm hoping for a drop in price. I booked at $299 per night for 2 nights and a 3rd night free.

Considering the posts I have read on the review boards I am hopeful that maybe they went with Marriott to get some "service" This hotel strikes me as using the "we LET you stay here" service model. For what they charge, I would expect some service. (Cute paint jobs aren't service LOL!)

I agree, I think Marriot will bring the Nick hotel to a higher level. I have seen bad reviews on the service at the current Nick hotel, and for $299 per night plus a $20 resort fee I expect better then the reviews I have seen.
Also, I heard that they charge you a high fee if you lose your wristband while you are there.

Here is an article explaining the announcement of the Nick Hotels. I noticed at the bottom of the article it states the agreement with the Holiday Inn expires in 2009. Marriot is opening the San Diego Nick hotel in 2010.

How did you get the third night free? W have 2 nights booked in October as well.

We are going on my birthday. My birthday night is free. But the first 2 nights, the friday and Saturday before Halloween, I am paying $299 per night. I'm hoping for $129 per night.

Anyone heard any more info on this? By my calendar it's almost early 2010, the original date mentioned.

I looked around the Marriott web site and came up empty handed.

Paramount sold off their parks to Cedar Fair, they still have Nickelodeon themes in the parks but from what I hear the license to keep using Nickelodeon expires in 2010 and who knows if they will renew it.

We stayed at the Marriott at Marco Island, FL and they had a Nick-themed weekend. The hotel already has the big pools with a pool slide and is very kid friendly (but no huge slide complex like Nick Hotel).

They had 3 or 4 Nick coordinators who ran games on the beach and at the pool 2 or 3 times per day, there was a character b-fast (only SpongeBob and Dora), special crafts (for a fee) and a Dive-In movie at night. There was one character meet and greet (with photos and nick mdse for sale).

I asked a manager and he told me this was a test program and they were doing it over several weekends during the summer here and at a few other Marriott resorts.

For months now they have listed on the Marriott website more weekends coming soon with a few resorts listed... it hasn't been updated since summer (I look all the time!) We are also anxious for more info on the new hotel in San Diego since DH stays 125-150 nights a year with Marriott.
