VMK Changes With the Seasons

You've probably noticed a change or two in VMK, but before I get into that, did everyone have a good Halloween? Free candy and costume fun, how cool is that? What do you think of our Holiday overlay? Yeah, I know it's a little early, but it was either keep the Halloween decorations up a little longer or put up out the Holiday decorations earlier, and we chose to bring on the holiday cheer! But that's not all - we have lots more holiday surprises that will roll out over the next 2 months, so stay tuned.

Charge!

So you took a ride on the Space Mountain Ride-A-Thon this weekend, pretty cool huh? We hoped you enjoyed the event, it was free this go 'round, but that will soon change. How you may ask? Well, we'll start charging you a few credits to get in on these events and here's why: As you know we're always listening to our players, many of you told have us that you love making Quests - but having good prizes for those Quest can be a problem. Our solution? Allow room owners to charge entry for an event.

As a Quest Maker, you'll be able to set Turnstiles to 4 different costs (0 credits, 5 Credits, 50 Credits and 100 Credits). As a Quester, players will be able to see the type of Quest offered as well as the prizes available for that Quest before they enter a turnstile. Quests are not the only uses for the turnstile, I can see rides, cafes and exclusive events all taking advantage of this option. We'll be testing turnstiles and entry fees for rooms over the next few weeks. I'll have more news on that soon...

Ride On!

Starting today our 4th track set will be on sale, drum roll please... Space Mountain! As you have already seen we debuted 2 new track pieces - Switches and Doors. We're trying to make the ride experience more interactive - personally, I can't wait to see how everyone uses theses pieces, since VMK players are a very creative bunch. ;-) If you missed the Ride-A-Thon (and your chance to win Up and Down tracks), don't worry the pieces exclusive to the Ride-A-Thon event will be on sale soon.

Speaking of rides, don't forget about the ride building competition at the end of the month - we'll have all the details for you on the event by next week...

See you in VMK,

Yavn

I'm glad they clarified on the admission turnstiles.. I'm kinda peeved that VMK will mention something in a newsletter or preview something in a room and not really specify on it until the next week.. I hope they fix that in the future, but hey I can't complain.. :teeth:

HMM??? So now it is going to be ok to charge for quests?
Apparently up to 100 credits will be ok, although in theory one could line up several chargers on the way to the quest machine. If it was a one could make their ride like a tool road and put in a charger every room. I think that charging for quests may cause your quest points to be lower. At any rate the same as now some people will refuse pay to play and others will go anyway. - I guess let the market set the price, I hope it give you a choice before it takes it.

I just think this will lead to all kinds of scams and headaches. Can anyone say impossible quests, booting after you enter the room, and the list goes on and on

I think the best way to solve this is that if the person goes through the credit payer and the owner boots them, they get a complete refund of their credits and won't have to worry about losing all of their credits.

I completely agree Grumpy. Not to mention everyone is going to be asking for that almighty 100 credits even if they have junk as a prize. I'd have to say, this is probably the worst idea VMK ever came up with. Every guest room will be charging just because they can. It'll be a hassle going anywhere now.

Then they won't be 'exclusive' will they?

Didn't they ban people for that earlier? I'm wondering what planet that Yavn & Co. are living on.

Well, to be fair, it says it lets you see what the quest is before you have to pay. Though I still agree that it's a bad idea.

I am trying to figure out the logistics of how they would do that. If they were charging credits then the quest machine would have to be on the other side of the toll gate wouldn't it?

Well I know it lets me access my own quest machine from the other side of the room when I run my quest, so maybe it'll let people on the other side of the toll booth access the quest machine from there? But then they'd be able to start it without paying... hmm.. Yeah you're right, that is pretty confusing.

I noticed this the other day... I was in a room and could not reach the quest machine... but when I clicked on the machine it showed me the prizes and I think the description of the quest. What is DOES NOT show you is if the quest is actually doable by anyone other than the quest maker.... that's the sucky part....

The gate DOES indeed ask if you want to pay... you have the choice of saying no.
