a single mom and her 2 year old (yay! we have a 2 year old, too) just moved in next door and I'd like to take something over to welcome her to the neighborhood. I haven't me her yet but dh has and all I know is that she is cute. and that her mom was there, but isn't staying with her so we assume she's from the area.

any ideas?

Cookies are usually popular. When we moved into our neighborhood, I found it VERY helpful when our new neighbors explained the trash and recycling schedules and any other little neighborhood information, so you could fill her in on that as well. :D

I'd say a cake probably would be nice, but if she has a 2 year old, then maybe a batch of chocolate chip cookies.

brownies, cookies, bars, those are usually the safest. If they don't eat them she can but them in the freezer and save them for a get together.

I usually do either pumpkin bread or banana bread or zucchini bread..... of course, for neighbors who move in during gardening season, I usuallly bring over some garden surplus (tomatoes, squash, etc)..................P

thanks! I was thinking chocolate chip cookies, but then I started thinking, well, what if the boy has allergies to chocolate, or what if she's doing atkins, etc. LOL! but it sounds like you all thought the same way. I want to give us our phone number, etc. Hopefully we'll click...always nice to make a new friend.

Hmmm...now, there is a single dad across the street...hmmm...could be an interesting summer!

Also how about some take out menus to your favorite places, recommendations on a pediatrician, dentist, dry cleaner, gym, etc. Then a big plate of cookies! YUM! Where do you live? Are there any more vacancies on your street?

If they are just moving in, frig may not be up and running, plates and utensils may not be unpacked, etc.

The last two times we moved, a cold drink and a pizza would have been heaven!

Hmmm.... Cookies are always good. I love bread, too. Nothing that really needs plates or utensils, since those need to be unpacked. But any food is always welcome.

Other stuff - take-out menus, recommendations for the good pizza place, other restaurants, a hair salon. Usually I know where the grocery store and such is, but I want to know the GOOD other stuff!

Stocks and bonds. Nothing says "welcome" like the gift of futures.

A nice chocolate cake is the norm in these here parts. But I like the cookie idea as well as the pizza idea.

stay away from her shes probably a fluzzie

Bring them a dinner like Broken8ball said. Maybe a pasta basket... Or a ziti casserole that she could freeze of she doesn't want to use it right away.

That's a great idea,,,, I just moved here into our townhouse 2 months ago, and know NOTHING about the town other than a few roads I drive on to get to work... I don't have a phone book, just internet access. When I think of questions, there's no one around to ask. My new next door neighbor will mention a few things here and there but she never baked me cookies!!!
