Ok, so we just moved into a new house and I was wondering on your thoughts about neighborhood etiquette. We have meet 1 of the familes to our side and 1 directly across the street. It is a pretty established neighborhood. Should we introduce ourselves to everyone else or would it be good neighborly welcome for them to introduce themselves and "welcome" us to neighborhood?

I'm torn. the 2 I have met I walked up to myself as they seen us while moving in, but still have yet to even see some of the others.

what are your thoughts?

Do you want to make friends? Go over knock on the door and introduce yourself. Ask for some local suggestions.
They might not even know you are in- so instead of worrying about it- go say hello!

I think that if you see people out and about, there is no reason not to go up to them and introduce yourself. I wouldn't knock on anyone's door only because it's not the 'done thing'. However, it would be polite for them to knock on your door and welcome you imho.

I guess it depends how badly you want to know these people.

thank you both for your input

Have a BBQ and invite EVERYONE, including some old friends. Great way to get to know people. :thumbsup2

By the way- congratulations on the new home! So if you are from the area I guess my where should I go to for a gyno suggestion isn't a good one!:rotfl2: I bet in a few months you'll be feeling totally settled in.

kegs in my man cave! haha, if they only knew 50 inch plasma with all sports channels, pool table, foosball etc. hahaha

it really depends on your neighbors.. When we first moved in I walked my dog around the block a few times and would introduce myself when people were outside and found those neighbors to be the friendliest ones on the street. Personally I don't love it when people come knocking on the door and I'm doing something like laundry and I have to stop to have a long conversation.
My new neighbors stopped us as we were on our way to hospital (I got a horrible tonsil infection that's caused my lymph node to swell up on one side and I've been having horrible ear/throat pain.) thing is they wanted to do the whole hi how are you these are our parents blah blah blah. I politely told them we were on our way to the Dr's and I was not feeling well. I hoped to be feeling better the next time we met. I was short but I truly was miserable and not up for chit chat.

On a separate note they have hedges that border out property and previous owner cut them down all the time. They've let them grow to 10ft when my husband mentioned it to them they said they loved the privacy they gave them. Its just eating at me its like get curtains I shouldn't have to not have sunlight on my first floor because you can't buy curtains. sorry needed to vent about those bushes lol.

Well since I am in a new neighborhood meeting new neighbors moving in all the time, I say just let it flow natural. Knocking on the door is a little odd, unless you have something to tell them, borrow, etc...

When you are outside, the chatty people will chat with you. I met another new neighborhood because Tru Green sprayed my lawn by accident and it was supposed to be their lawn and now we were getting billed, so we used that opportunity to go over and knock on the door to chat about it & introduce ourselves.

I just met my new neighbors next door 2 days ago. They just moved in.

I am getting another new neighbor in a week behind me with a BIG dog apparently so I am sure we are going to be chatting since we have 2 big dogs.

ok that's funny!! I am so sorry I assumed and we all know what happens when you do that.

Am I the only one who remembers the "Welcome Wagon?" A group of community ladies who knocked on the doors of new community residents to bring them a basket of goodies and welcome them into the neighborhood? I kind of miss those days.

Pepole come and go all the time in my building. At first I would get to know them, but they would move out before I saw them again. Now I just keep to myself, with the shades drawn tight and my tinfoil hat firmly on my head.

I hate to think what my neighbors think of me! I guess I am the "scary German guy" for the building. :cool1:

People in my neighborhood are NOSY and competitive.

All it took was a few minor cosmetic changes to our house, the ripping up of a shrub, and the planting of some flowers, and everyone on the block wanted to know who the heck we were. :rotfl:

Try doing yard work. In my neighborhood, people come a running!
