New Military Discounts update

I just got off talking to CN as well as their boss. Not out as yet call back next week (middle) Both told me if someone booked it the CM would be in trouble. Not in the system as yet so I was told But soon she said.

Obviously it's there...

I don't know why everyone is never on the same page at CRO.

This same thing happened to me last week with the AAA discount...one CM said they weren't available for 2013 yet, even put me on the phone with guest services, who said the same thing. I called back an hour later and booked the AAA with no issues.

It was the same thing last night. First CM said mil discount not available yet, though she confirmed it will be next week...called back and the 2nd CM had no problem booking and had already done it several times!!!

The military discount is a special arrangement. Completely unrelated to anything else.

So, I have a package booked for my dd and I in December. It was originally booked at POFQ, but some kind of glitched in the online booking did not process my credit card and before I realized that the reservation was canceled. I was devastated. When the CM tried to get that one back with the free dining it was booked. So, I rebooked, but we are having to go to POP instead. Which I am ok with at this point. Anyway, my question is, if i have that package with free dining am I able to change the tickets to the military salute tickets within my package, or will I lose free dining?

I'm pretty sure you can't buy the military salute tickets directly thru Disney. You have to get them at your local MWR office, or at SOG. A free dining package requires the purchase of tickets (2 days worth I think) anyways, so you probably want to look at the cost there...your free dining package would not go down....you'd have to buy your salute tickets on top of your package.

@Nomad ... run the numbers to see which is a better deal for you : keeping free dining and your tickets as is, or military discount, add dining, use military salute tickets. Don't think of free dining as free, think of it as as total package price & compare the two.

I may sound stupid, is the Military discount for active military only? Does the person in the military acturally have to go, of could their family just go? My husband is 100% disabled Vietnam Vet and just wondering if I would be eligible.

Nice, I was wondering when I would be able to apply my room discount. We've decided that we are going to go with room discount and opt out of the free dining ( if it happens to come up for our time frame - which is pretty iffy). We are staying at AoA and we would only get the QS dining plan as the free dining. We would end up having up upgrade to TS. All in all the upgrade is close to the 30% room discount so we are just going to take that instead.

REALLY hoping the promo info for tickets is accurate. That would be so awesome! I figured they would have some sort of deal/extension for us but, it would probably go up a bit which is OK with me! I'm grateful for any kind of savings at this point. With 4 kids, this trip is by no means cheap. It is, however, absolutely and completely worth it to see my kids having a great time before daddy leaves again.

How exactly would it work booking a package vacation with the military discount? Would you be able to purchase the salute tickets, get the discounted room rate and then add on a dining plan to that? Can the dining plan be purchased seperately?

When getting the military discount, they do allow you to add the dining plan without a ticket purchase. So, you would be able to buy the salute tickets separately.

Not for AD only but no matter what the military member has to go to be able to activate the tickets....but that being said if you have your military ID you being his spouse can go and get the tickets and room, as long as you have your ID, he doesn't have to be there.

Qualify if you have this: Honorably discharged veterans with 100 percent Service-connected disability. ID is DD Form 1173 or DD Form 2765

FYI....I was just able to book a room only military discount. I had called earlier today and was told no it wasn't out yet (not that it wasn't available for my dates/hotel). I called back to change resorts and dates and BAM! I got my 35% discount on CSR for 12/7-12/12. If the world ends on 12/12 (I don't think it will...), at least I'll have my Disney vacay in!!!

Reading thru this thread I get the idea that the discount isn't available for all resorts. Is this true? I realize that they probably only have so many rooms per day per hotel but it would seem to me that if you call on the very first day the discount becomes official you should be able to get the hotel you want. I have rez at SoG for June 1-11 (Junior Suite) and would like to jump into two rooms at POR if the 35% discount is available. Probably wouldn't take advantage of the discount tickets since the 10 day ticket available thru SoG is cheaper than 2 4-day discount tix.
