Personally I didn't think it was that bad - but it also wasn't needed. People/kids want to meet the Merida they know from the movie, so why change it?

If they want to have an alternate outfit she wears for special occasions that is more like a ball gown so they can sell more dresses, fine, but leave what made the character unique alone
