New Menus????

I was on the June 28 4 Day Wonder and I thought the food was fine. I had some things that I would recommend and some things that I would not. Although, it probably has more to do with personal taste. If you have any specific questions, I will try to answer them.

Can you tell me your thoughts on the new Animator's Palette menu? What did you like, what was not good? That was the only menu I looked at that I couldn't find anything I really wanted to try. Thank you!

I've never really been able to find anything on the Animator's menu no matter how many times they change it. I think I normally just end up getting the steak.

I looked at the Magic's new menus and noticed they no longer had the cherries jubilee. Can anyone who's just been on the Magic verify that this is correct? It's one of our favorites, especially my dad's. It was on the Captain's Gala menu.

If it is not listed on the new menus it is not offered. You can request it as some have done with other dishes but there is no guarantee that they can accomodate your request.

I see in AP they list three cocktails at beginning of menu and no price listed next to them. Are these complimentary? Do other restaurants do that?

No, the only things included are your meal and "soft" beverages (Pop/Water/Milk/Juice/etc.)

Any non-alcoholic specialty drink, after-dinner drinks, or any drinks that contain alcohol are an additional cost.

They're not complimentary, none of the alcoholic drinks on the ship are. Each menu has themed cocktails.

We might have to give that a try. Thanks!!!!

Becks's Mom,

It's funny that you should mention AP because that was my least favorite meal. We ate there the first night. The problem was really only with the main course. We were 2 adults traveling without our kids so we were seated with 2 other couples without kids. I tend to order meat or seafood when we eat out because we eat so much chicken at home. I find pasta a little too filling, mostly because I watch the carbs. For an appetizer, I ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto and Porcini Twist and it was very good. My DH (who watches carbs even more than I do) ordered the Ahi Tuna Tartare and it was excellent. If you like Tuna Tartare I would highly recommend it (at least that night it was awesome). They brought out the Taleggio Cheese Flatbread by mistake and it didn't look good, so we didn't even try it. We both ordered the Fragrant Five-Spiced Fish and it just wasn't good. We live in the FL Panhandle, about 2 miles from the gulf, so we eat a lot of fresh seafood. I thought the fish might be fresh since it was the first night, but it tasted strong and fishy. The Five Spice Sauce, which they pour over it at the table, was fine and the Baby Bok Choy was also good. It was just the quality of the fish. I really did not notice what everyone else got except the gentleman next to me. He had the Penne Pasta and it looked delicious. He said it was good but the Proscuitto was a little too salty. The only dessert that I tasted was the Cranberry and Orange Chessecake and it was very good. Hope this helps.

cheermom-
That does help me quite a bit! It looks like I will probably order a salad and the 2 appetizers you mention for my entree and I'll be good! Thanks!

Beck's Mom,

I forgot to mention that I tried the Creamy Butternut Squash Soup. I didn't like it because it reminded me of jarred baby food. It's the taste that I remember from sticking my tongue to it to make sure it wasn't too hot. I still remember the bad taste of that jarred squash. I do love fresh squash. I did enjoy all the chilled fruit soups, especially the strawberry mint soup on the Welcome Buffet.

Beck's Mom,

I do remember that one of the other adults had the Phyllo-Wrapped Salmon Fillet. She said it was good but only ate about half of it. The other 2 adults ordered beef every night. At AP, I think they ordered the Veal Chop. They did say on the last night that the beef at Tritons was the best they had on the cruise. I don't remember much about the salads, except some nights the lettuce was fresher than others. I've decided that if I eat at AP again, I would probably break my never order chicken out rule, and try the Lemon-Thyme Marinated Chicken Breast. I haven't read anything negative about that one. Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks for all the info! Esp the info about the soup. I will steer clear of the baby food soup but I can't wait to try the strawberry mint soup you mentioned!

The cheese flatbread at AP was excellent. It has carmelized onions on it and they were definately carmelized the only way I really like onions. DD had the tuna tartare and really liked it - the first time she had tuna tartare.
I had the veal chop and it was really good as well.

So cheermom & jilljill-

what did you guys really like at the other 2 restaurants, Parrot Cay & Triton's? I would love to hear your reviews! Did you try that lobster mac & cheese?

Beck's Mom & jilljill,

DH and I were cruising without the kids. The flatbread cheese thing was small and round and reminded me of kid's pizza. I should have tried it, but I was still pretty full from lunch. Caramelized onions are terrific, especially when they are sweet, but I just didn't won't onions on my breath that evening. I love a good grilled veal chop, but I had already had wonderful rib roast from the carving station for lunch at the Welcome Buffet. We try to eat meat twice a week, not twice a day. I always enjoy reading the reviews because they have truly helped me.

We LOVED the new menus on the Magic. The desserts were amazing - different from before but great! The appetizers were phenominal, and there was always at least 2 entree choices that were yummy.:thumbsup2

Wow! Our first night was AP. Our second night was Palo's. It was amazing! I'll review that later. Our third night was at Parrot Cay and it was Pirate Night. And, our last night was at Triton's.

Everything we had at Palo was outstanding.

Calamari
Sicilian Pesto Grilled Shrimp Salad
Beef Tenderloin
Panna Cotta
Chocolate Souffle
Chocolate Amaretto Indulugence

I think I will make ressies at Palo every night. Is that allowed?

I wish. Only one reservation for dinner per stateroom and one reservation for Brunch. Otherwise, everyone would eat every meal there. The calamari was the best I've ever had and I've had way too much calamari in my life. If you like chocolate as much as I do, the Chocolate Amaretto Indulgence was worth every caloric.
