Just sharing as my DVC guide was kind enough to share with me. Effective 7/24/19, any accounts closed (finalized) on or after that date, membership cards will now be sent automatically to the purchasers on the contract. This is for DVC direct assuming a contact of 75 or more points. Thought I'd share as I've read how much a pain getting a member card has been for some members, so good news for future members!

Again, this is information from a DVC guide so take it for what it's worth.

So the digital cards aren't working out as a big money saver for them, eh?

That's reverting back to the way it was for years and years and years. I actually wouldn't be surprised that it is true.

Not sure if this is old news or part of the "new policy" but the digital cards are only active for 3 months from time of first use/download according to the members site.

It's a rolling 3 months. If you log in a week or a month from from now it will also have a 3 month expiration date.
 

We closed the first week of June and I could have sworn our guide said cards would come automatically but I ordered cards Monday JIC.

Now that I see that typed out I guess its only just been 6 weeks. Feels like forever.
 
We bought at the very end of June. When I try to order a membership card from the website, it says I can't access that section of the website? Do I have to wait for everything to close or is this just glitchy?

You do have to wait until your account shows closed. You may be getting yours sent automatically due to yours hasn’t closed yet. From what I gathered from my DVC guide, if you close on or after the 24th they get sent automatically. We got our signing papers yesterday and it said in the contract we probably won’t close until September.
 
Silver lining that my direct points haven't come in yet? Now I won't have to manually order cards. This can be my next discussion topic when I call my guide to follow-up about points next week 😂

We closed in mid July and got our blue cards within 2 weeks. I ordered my card the day the points showed up.
 
I have no choice but to wait and see if this guide's statement was correct. The fine print on the member website says you can't order cards until your account shows as "closed" which mine is not yet. OR maybe you can order them but the order won't go through until your account shows as "closed." Our first trip isn't until Sept 2020, so I'm not really in a rush to get them.

We closed in mid July and got our blue cards within 2 weeks. I ordered my card the day the points showed up.
Our cards showed up Monday! They came with a fancy schmancy letter and expire in 2021. I don't know if these were sent because we closed, or if they were sent because we called. Our points were available as of June 8, but I don't think we 'officially' closed until July.
 
As did my second card. A large fancy envelope which says " Your pixie dusted suprise has arrived"
The first one was ordered and arrived 3 weeks after we purchased. The second was automatic.
 
I don't know about saving the envelope, I just hope our dues are not covering the cost to produce and mail these. This is 9" X 12" envelope made of very nice paper.
