Okay, so I've banked my 2010 points and booked a reservation for our February 2012 pre-cruise stay at our home resort (BLT) woohoooooo! Am I correct in thinking that if DD wanted to stay at say Animal Kingdom rather than Bay Lake at the 7 month window (July) I could either transfer my reservation to AK or waitlist my current BLT reservation for Animal Kingdom if no rooms available at that time?

Thanks for your patience and help in creating a dream come true, we are so happy to be new DVC members :goodvibes and truly love BLT but stayed there twice last year!

You don't transfer a reservation, you cancel the one you have and you book a new one at AKV. If you have enough available points, you can book AKV first, then cancel BLT, if not you run a slight risk that AKV inventory could disappear while MS does their thing, it happened to us once and we lost both reservations.

If AKV isn't available, you can have up to two active wait lists.

Thanks Bill, that does make sense? I booked BLT on my banked 2010 points but would have 2011 points available. If I booked AKV then cancelled BLT I'm assuming that the 2010 points would still be the first ones used to fulfill the reservation. Is that correct assumption?! :confused3

We sorta had to do this same thing if I am reading it right:confused3 We Booked at our HR<OKW when the HR window opened with borrowed points with the anticipation of getting a room at AKV, so when that window was opened we just called DVC and they did all the work for us....they adjusted our points and booked the new ressie and cancelled the old one..:thumbsup2 We are new members as well and it is very easy to work with those guys...So doing it like this meaning by calling them would make it very easy but I do know once you borrow the points they do not go back to the borrowed year, so if you do not use those points with your new ressie then you would have a certain TF you needed to use them....They told us FEB of the borrowed year... Hope this helps

So Yes they would use your unborrowed points first.....

That is not correct. Your banked points aren't available to book AKV until BLT is canceled. That is one of the big problems with the DVC booking system. The new reservation is not removed from available inventory until MS completes the transaction even though the MS CM has it up on their screen.

I complained to Disney Management about the problem and they politely told me that they don't have any current plans to correct the problem. :sad2:

Yet, when I called at 7 months for my August trip to change two nights from a SV at BLT to a BW view at BWV, I asked about the chances of losing both. The CM told me she had put the BW view room on hold while she canceled the BLT room. I told her I didn't think she could do that and she said we can now. This was after the new upgrades so it is possible.

Maybe not all CM's know how?.

It may depend on the CM. Team Leads have always had the ability to hold inventory and they sometimes answer calls and book reservations.

I have asked a couple of times since the upgrade and the CM's have told me that they do not have the ability to hold inventory. :confused3

I've been told the same thing as Sandi has that since the upgrade they are able to grab the room and they essentially modify the existing reservation and change it from the old one to the new one. It's been much easier and I haven't gotten the concerns from CM's who state that they'll have to do it quickly or lose the room. You do need to let them know from the start that you are looking to change an existing reservation.

This helps knowing how to at least approach things in July...I'll report back and let you know how my experience pans out! Thanks to you all! Until I have a few booking transactions under my belt I'll be needing a little handholding :goodvibes
