After years of wanting to, I just bought 50 points at PVB. I know its not a lot, but its def a good starting point for me and I hope to increase my point bank very soon. Any suggestions for a new member would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome home! We were new a couple of years ago (bought at BCV) and are going on our third trip in Dec at the third different resort. That's one of the best features of DVC in my opinion. I know some will say to only use PVB points at PVB or VGF because they are expensive points but try some other resorts if you can and then buy some cheap points if you think you would like to stay somewhere else regularly.

Take the time to learn the member website, banking, borrowing, availability and the accounting section of your account.

Keep your own records, don't expect the member website to be correct or available.

Congratulations! That is an excellent starting point for sure :)

Welcome Home! PVB is a lovely resort. Have fun planning your first trip.

Keep in mind that October through Marathon weekend in January is the most popular vacation time for DVC members, so if you planning to vacation then, you might want to take advantage of your home resort advantage at PVB and book a reservation at the 11 month mark. And then if you want to try to switch to another resort at the 7 month mark.

I hope you have many, many magical stays using your DVC points.

Quick question, does adding a waitlist request make the points that would be required unavailable immediately or not until the reservation is confirmed?

Not allocated until the reservation is actually made.

Welcome Home!
I would agree that you'll want to keep track of borrowing/banking since the site might not always show things correctly.
And your points will continue to appear in your account until a reservation is made, so if you make a waitlist you'll still have those points available until the waitlist comes through.

Do read the boards here, they have been valuable to us during our 13 years of membership. However realize your experiences may be different than many posted here. I used to get more alarmed reading about bad service, bad villas and lost points in the account. Calmly I have addressed problems and have found that Disney's reputation for great customer service has carried over to DVC's cast members.

We recently stayed in a Poly studio for 5 night, lake view and loved it. The split bathroom is a great feature, watching fireworks from our balcony, the ease of getting to Epcot, and the spaciousness of the accommodation made the stay extra special.
