New Member referral and annual dues credit?

So my friend joined DVC and we were able to choose to get credit on our annual dues.

Here's the deal. It was near the end of the year that they joined, so in turn, it was late in the year when we sent in our forms choosing the annual dues credit.

We did get the letter from DVC saying they were processing our request, etc.

But with dues being due this month, so I have to pay the full dues anyway? The $250 credit did not show up on our dues statement. I just want to get the credit for our dues this year, and not have to wait until 2010.

Anyone know how this works? This is our first referral who actually joined, so I'm kind of clueless. Thanks!

It shows up as a credit on your account (on DVCmember.com) once it's really finalized, so if you're not seeing there, I think you're going to have to pay it and just use the credit next year.

You could call Member Accounting and ask if there's any other way to handle it.

If they processed it before your 2009 dues were calculated, it will be deducted over the entire year. For example, if your dues are $1000 for the year, instead of paying $83 per month ($1000/12) you will pay $66 per month ($800/12).

If the credit was applied after the 2009 calculation, your dues payments will be skipped for a few months until the credit is gone. Again if you have $1000 in dues spread over $83 monthly payments, you would pay nothing for two consecutive months, $49 in the third month, and then $83 for the remainder of the year.

At least that's how they have done it in the past.

That would only be the case if you chose monthly dues payments, though, correct? I pay mine all at once, so I'm not familiar with the monthly payments -- your explanation makes sense though.

We also pay our dues in one lump sum. I'll have to call MS I guess.

Thanks for the input all!

May I ask what is the amount you get from DVC for referring someone?

It's a sliding scale based on number of referrals in a year.

1st = $200
2nd = $350

and it goes from there. It can be used for gift cards, towards your dues, and I think some other choices too.

Some states are not eligible for the referral bonuses - it depends on the law in the state.

Where would one look to find out which states are eligible for referral bonuses and which ones are not? Does the DVC member site have that information?

Thanks.
