Hi, I am a new member and am in the beginning stages of planning our very first trip to Disney (for any of us!), and are thrilled! Our son will be 11 when we go (December 2008) and our daughter will be 5.
We're hoping to rent DVC points to stay at the Animal Kingdom and to visit all of the parks. Can anyone tell me if it's worth using the water parks in December or is it too chilly for that?
We have looked into flying vs driving and have decided to drive to save on costs (it will be less than half even with taking into account gas, oil changes, hotel room on the way down/back etc.). I have estimated that the trip will take about 22 hours. Any tips from those experienced with this drive (especially w/kids)?
I've been reading and keep seeing info on free dining, but have no idea what this is, any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help our trip planning a little easier!

Welcome. I have no kids so cannot help there. If you drive yourself. you would have more freedom with a car there. The Christmas decorations are wonderful at the hotels. The Grand Floridian has a huge gingerbread house. I went for the first time last Dec. Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (
arty: And yes, AKL does have an awesome
pool (beach entry). I've gone in WDW pools in Dec. but not the waterparks. However, in early Jan. 06, we did visit BB even though it was only in the 60's that day. It was a little cooler than I like, but it was still great. If it was me, I would just play it by ear and go if the weather is warm enough. I know when we were there in Dec. 2003. I actually wore my thermals during the day. Of course, I'm from sunny
Southern California, and anything under 60 is freezing to me!

) and she always wants to check out the "Real Florida". I kid, but it is nice to be able to leave the property, when you want. It also makes it easier to travel to another resort, for a meal, etc. I believe Disney Dining recommends allowing at least 1 hr. to travel from your resort to another for a meal. With our own car, we can get from POP to Kona (Poly) in less than 1/2 that time. We also go to either Super Target, or Super
