Hi everyone, joined here as other similar sites were getting a little to 'cliquey' and I just want some honest opinions. My dilemma is wether to take my family consisting of myself, hubby, & sons 11 & 2 (their ages not their names ;-) ) to either Florida or California next year! If we go to California we'll require a couple of beach days, am thinking 5 days at Laguna and if we choose Florida it will most likely have to be a villa as I need "time out" due to cancer. I want to give my kids the best holiday, the best Disney experience possible but I also need to keep in mind I will regularly have to stop for a rest. So this is why I'm stuck between the both...plan on doing both of course but not sure were to start? Thanks everyone x

Regardless of whether you end up in CA or FL, for your park days, consider renting a scooter from an approved vendor or in the parks. Using a scooter will save you a LOT of energy compared to walking around. I had knee issues and used one in FL - rented from Apple Scooter and they delivered to my hotel - we stayed on site so I could get it on all of the Disney transportation - and I didn't have to walk to the bus stops or from the bus stops to the park rental sites.

Regardless of what you decide, take the breaks you need and enjoy the time with your family. Good luck with your treatments!

Hoping and praying that you can kick cancer to the curb - and soon!

I practically grew up at WDW and now I live in L.A. so I've made multiple trips to both places. This is a tough question because you really can't go wrong in either location. But I'm leaning towards Disneyland in California because of how close everything is there.

If you feel like you're going to need a lot of rest breaks, the distance between the two theme parks, Downtown Disney, and the three Disneyland Hotels are very short. It'll be much easier and faster to make a quick getaway back for a nap if you need it.

Let us know what you decide!

Welcome, and best wishes for your health.

You didn't specify, but let me point you towards a Godsend when I faced my mastectomy and radation: a Disboards thread on Breast Cancer. Regardless of the type of cancer or the treatment you're facing, the people on this thread have some concrete experience to share. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2833381&highlight=gagwta

Now, as to which park to visit: I've never been to Disneyland, but I'm going to cast my vote for Disney World anyway. As long as you're not the only adult, your husband and kids can tour without you when you need to rest.

And, if you can swing it financially, stay close to a park-- think monorail loop or one of the Epcot resorts. (Keep in mind, that means Deluxe, no matter how you cut it.) When you've had enough and need to go back and rest, it will be so much easier if the resort is nearby.

The best of luck to you!

Welcome to the DIS. I will pray for you and your fight against cancer. We have also not been to Disneyland only World. A villa in WDW would be wonderful. You could rent a DVC reservation from a DVC member to save some money or maybe get a bigger villa. Even if you stay behind and let the family tour a little while you rest, there is so much for you to enjoy at the the resort. Please keep us updated and if you have any more questions or need more details, let us know.
