Hi,

I need help. The manufacturer suddenly changed the consistency of our regular cat litter. :rolleyes1 Out of the blue.

We have two cats. And one of them refuses to use it. He is staying in an unfinished basement for his spots - thank goodness. He's not coming up to do it in our living area. But I have no idea how to fix this issue. I grew up with dogs so I have no clue. Nada. Plus, our other cat has never ever had any litter issues.

It's 100% not a health issue. Urinary etc. It happened the day we noticed the change in litter. And he's been this way since birth. We had to stop using any deodorizer for him. It's his way or the highway. :rotfl2:;)

I know I have to try to permanently remove the urine smell so he doesn't go back there. I get that and we're trying.

But I need ideas of how to rectify for good. Do we try a new litter and put it where he's going to the washroom? Ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Lisa

I would put a couple of different litter boxes down where he is going with a couple of different kinds of litter, see if he uses one or another, if you can narrow it down to the one he is using perhaps you will have your problem solved? I change litter all the time since I usually buy what is on sale and Never have issues and there are now 9 cats in this house!

both my cats are this way-try this if you can find one bag of the old formula-mix the old stuff with the new-start with 75 percent old to 25 percent new-then 50 50 then 25 75 then 100 percent new. it usually works with mine-have to do this with new litter, or new food-and omg when we moved to a new home it was heck.

Try a litter called "Cat Attract". It's expensivve, but seemed to help one of ours who decided to just do it "anywhere". After a while, we were able to discontinue it and go back to the less expensive stuff.

Thanks so much guys!!! I love the disboards. Sighing, so helpful. And so darn smart are you all. :lmao: :goodvibes

Lucky you chyam. And good idea. This cat is straight male diva. But highly entertaining. Thank God. I can't imagine if he was annoying or boring and did this too...;)

@jsmith - great idea but I can't get the old because I swear nothing changed on the container to see. It was surprise to us and him (Neville - notice how it rhymes with devil :rolleyes1) But I'll check to see if they put "improved" anywhere.

@ minnie carousel. I'd say I'm happy to hear you have the same issue - BUT I"M NOT!!! Sorry. Great advice. I'll see if we can get cat attract here. Thanks.

Another thing you may want to try....I gave up buying litter boxes , I needed a big one for the Maine Coon that I own, so I tried a 28 qt. under the bed storage box ($3.99 on sale at Target!) a box that size at Petsmart would have been close to $20.00! Perhaps your kitty just doesn't have enough room in his present box along with the litter problem! I have also used the 32 qt size one, but the 28 qt. one is fine....I even got some colored ones on sale after Christmas to use.

I'm going to try this. I'd heard this stuff was out there and then forgot about it. We have one who has always peed inappropriately. I've got him down to just one place where I put down a puppy pad. . .but then I have to continually clean up puppy pads.
