Hi everyone,
Looking for a new 14 piece knife set. Any recommendations? I wish that I could afford the top of the line Henkle's, but I can't so I need another brand. I have had the same knives since I got married almost 15 years ago. I think it is time for some new ones.
Thanks,
Jenny

Do you have a price range in mind? Do you need a block, or do you already have a block you can use?

You can get a Henckels set for under $100, they just won't be quite as nice as their more expensive knives, obviously.

I have the Chicago Cutlery Insignia2 line at home, and no complaints so far. They're a good middle of the road brand.

Oh, but then you have to first decide what handle type... will it match the existing decor or start you headed towards a future kitchen remodel... Heheheheheee

Thanks for the recommendation. I think that I am going to go to BB&B tomorrow to check these out.

Well, hoping to move South in the next few years, so I guess I will have to start from scratch and model my new kitchen after the new knives that I get now. :rotfl:

I've been looking for knives too and I just bought a Chicago Cutlery set two weeks ago. I've used them several times now and I'm very happy with them. I got the full stainless (blade and handle).

We got our Henckels set at Costco several years ago, and I like it. I think it was this one (or one like it):

I have this same Henckles block, but I think the knives in it are different. Mine are the Professional S. I paid about $450 about 7 years ago. The great thing about good knives is that they'll outlast the cheap ones by decades. I recommend buying a good brand with just a few "starter" knives, but with a full size block for storage. You can add knives to your set over time.

I agree with Tina. I would replace my 1 or 2 most used knives with great knives, and then gradually replace the rest of them. I'm not a "matchy-matchy" person though, so I don't really care if they all match at the same time.

I have a set of Henkels, love them dearly. My mother bought them for me at the outlet mall. I do not know what she paid. I think she has also found some at TJ Maxx pretty decently priced. Mine have the ergonomic handle, hers are more traditional. I did find Henkels at Target once, they were on the gal's wedding registry. I don't know if they were as good as mine, but they were economically priced. She was elated to get them also.

Well, went out today to BB&B. I got the Henckel Classic Forged Cutlery 15 piece set. It was $199.99, but I had a 20% off coupon, so it came to $169.99 w/ tax. I haven't opened the package yet, but it looks like a really nice set. The salesperson did tell me NOT to put these in the dishwasher.
Thanks for all of the responses.
Jenny
