My poor Makya passed away on Saturday. Since it has happened, Eowyn (his girlfriend) has been walking around looking for him, been more clingy since Makya went to the vet Thursday night, etc. She has never been the only cat (at my parents' house there are three other cats.) I took her to the vet to get her updated on her vaccines and make sure she wasn't sick, and I asked him when is the best time to adopt a new cat. I was told now would be best while she is still looking for the companionship and before she gets used to being the only cat.

I looked at several kittens at the vet, and have decided. Tomorrow I will bring home a long haired 14 week old male whom I have christened Jasper (Jazz for short.) He has long white fur with a little gray smudge on the top of his head. He is very affectionate and playful, and I think he will be a good fit for the house and for Eowyn.

ETA: He was brought to the vet as a stray.

Any good advice on introducing Jazz to Eowyn? I'm reading as much as I can online, but it's been a long time since I've had to do this.

I don't have any advice, as I've never had to do this, but just wanted to say good luck introducing the new buddies! :goodvibes Love to see pics of Jasper when you bring him home.

I stopped by Wal-Mart and got all the supplies I need. Since he will be in a "safe room" for awhile I had to get extras of everything. The safe room is to help all the animals acclimate and to keep him safe while I am gone. One of my dogs is part Jack Russell and I have heard that their gaming instinct can make them dangerous to small cats. I don't want Jazz getting into the kitchen when I'm gone and getting into trouble with Mattie who thinks that the proper way to play with a cat is to chew on their head.

Jazz will be supervised around Mattie until I am comfortable that Mattie will not be too rough or Jazz is big enough that he will not be hurt by my rambunctious little monster.

I'm glad you were able to find a little guy and give another cat a good home. I'll be on the look out for pictures of Mr. Jazz!

Jasper is in his safe room right now. I am about to go haul a blanket and pillow in there so I can take a nap with him (another exhausting day at school). Once I figure out where the cord to my camera is I will take a pic.

Bringing a new cat home is always fun. Especially when you bring them home two at a time like I do!

Sounds like you are doing all the right things to get them all adjusted nicely.

I'd love to see a picture too. I have an all white cat w/medium hair with a black spot on the top of his head. His tail is all black and the way he walks and holds his tail, he looks like a horse!

I took a cell phone pic and sent it to my father in lieu of having a working camera, and his comment was, "I thought you adopted a cat, not a ferret!" In Jasper's defense, he is very active and trying to get the cell phone to focus on him was not easy to do.

Can you e-mail the pic to yourself from your phone and post it that way? Congratulations on the new kitty! So sorry about your other kitty though.

It was actually a video (the still pics didn't turn out.) I will try to get one posted by Saturday.

LOL...I too have pictures on my cell of my cats that make them look like ferrets. Just doesn't capture them the same as a camera!
