We are in the process of a full kitchen remodel - when its done I will post a before and after and some inbetween photos(once I learn how :( )

Anyways to our ? - we are going to have under the counter lights installed - our old kitchen didn't have these so I am wondering what type you folks have in your kitchen and if you like them - If you don't like them please tell me why?

Flourecent
incadescent sp
halogen

and

are your lights hardwired or plug in?

Thanks in Advance
Sue

We just moved into our new house and we have hard wired florescent lighting- it's ok. It's not what I wanted, but the builder didn't understand that. If you are using the lighting to light your work space, it's great. I wanted my under counter lighting as "mood" lighting. So, I asked for them to install rope lighting under the counters. It is beautiful in it's reflection off granite or marble and sets a calm warm feeling for the room. I'm still thinking about changing it to that- just don't know if I can hard wire that kind of lighting.

I don't like incandescent for working, and I see the strobing of flourescent, so I love the halogen lights. Those little round ones work great!

I like the halogen ones, too. We have the plug in ones, because we decided on them after the kitchen was done. Halogen lights are the most similar to natural sunlight.

we have a new house with hard wired under the counter
fluorescent
I love them- they light up the work areas great
and I like them at night if I only want a night light effect
I almost didn't get them and I am so glad I got them

This type of lighting is becoming more popular. One of the reasons is that it does not generate the heat that Halogen does which IMO is a huge benefit for undercabinet lighting.

We just finished with out total kitchen reno too and we had direct wire flourescent lighting installed.:)

We have halogen too.

Purchased from Home Depot as plug-in....but DH converted them to hard-wired onto wall switches at same time as installing extra outlets. It freed up outlets...and I don't like seeing wires.

I like the lights. Use them mostly as mood lighting. Our kitchen has pretty good lighting already...so I don't use them too often as task lighting.

These were installed when we did our $500 kitchen makeover ourselves: paint, new countertops, new faucet, extra outlets & undercabinet lighting, false undersink storage fronts, electric & light switch plate covers....and a few decorations.

We remodled last spring, on a budget, and had the undercounter halogens put in place. I think that is what they are. The electrician recommended and put them in. The are very tiny bulbs. We also had all the lights put on dimmer and I use the undercounter lights all the time. It is nice to turn them down very low and be able to go and get water from the fridge without turning on the recessed.

If I have all my lights on it is like an operating room in there. ;)

Man I wish I thought of this - we just did our kitchen over last year!!!! I wonder if it;s too late???

We have halagon also. We have the hockey pucks. Our contractor recommended them because they are easier to replace if something breaks.

Thanks for all the input - I think its btwn halogen and xenon - my DH likes the xenon lights - but I will have to go to the lighting showroom and check each out in person.

Thanks again!:D I'll let you know what I choose on wednesday.
