New Job w/ Disney! Should I sell?

I've realized a dream, and gotten a job with Walt Disney World. I'm very excited, and am looking forward to starting my new career.

That leads me to my question. Being a 200 point SSR owner, should I sell? We really won't be staying there anymore. Plus, with the price increase, I should make a tidy profit on the sale, with the added bonus of no more payments or dues.

But, something else is telling me to hold on. Maybe, to trade out for other non-Disney locations.

What do you guys think?

I interviewed with Disney last year. I had already decided that if Disney and I came to an agreement I would keep at least SOME of my points. I think you may discover that you suddenly have "new" friends and family members who want to "visit" you in Orlando. (assuming you can get them into the parks etc) I figured I could use my DVC for this.

If it were me and I could afford it (and Disney's pay rate was one reason that I am still in Atlanta LOL!) I would keep it for a while and see what happens. You don't have to decide right away.

Ah, I own at SSR and live here in Orlando. ;)

My dad owns 2 timeshares here (lives in PA) and swaps out his Kissimmee one alot. They also own at Hilton GV and use those points at other places...

It's up to you!

I think you should keep it. It's not a large contract, and as others have said...There will always be someone wanting to come visit.

First of all, congratulations on your new position! I envy you tremendously, as I log into the Disney Careers website daily. This is a time for celebration!

I vote to keep your membership....for now. There's time for such a decision, so don't rush. The terms "friends" and "family" are about to take on new meanings, and your DVC membership might be a great way to "put them up" for a night or two.

Congratulations again!!!

I'd say sell now, and then if you find you regret it, you could buy back in with your CM discount.

That would be my advice now but I'd say sell when SSR is done selling so maybe keep it for another year then sell.

As stated you could buy back in with the CM discount and own another resort like AKV with a longer term and specific designated booking categories worthy of having the home resort status there.

Congratulations on the new career.

Maybe this sounds stupid, but I've always felt that a disadvantage of moving to Orlando would be that I would never get to stay on property again. It just feels like it would be such a letdown to drive to the parks and then drive home instead of staying within the magic. So, if it were me (and I could afford it), I think I would hang on to my DVC at least long enough to know for sure how I felt about this issue. I think it would be a lot of fun to have DVC points just to be able to take a little get-away on property once in awhile, and then have only a short drive home when it was time to leave - the best of both worlds.

Personally, I would sell, put aside the money and then buy back in with your CM discount. That should yield more points!

Congratulations! I am with the either sell now or in a year crowd then repurchase with your whopping 25% discount! I wish I lived close enough to work there. We live in TX and I can't see my DH moving any time soon.

I have CM friends who own DVC. Not only do they use their points for visitors but also when hurricanes are due. They will make a ressie and sit out the storm in the comfort of a DVC resort rather than their house/apartment.

You likely would be better off selling. If you want to stay in but with less points wait and buy an add on with the CM discount then sell the current points.

Would like to congulate you on your new job. Good luck.

I would not do anything right away. I hope your dream job is everything you wished for. However several of my friends found out the hard way that it wasn't for them.

Wait for awhile, get settled, see how the job is going and then decide. I would not rush into anything. As someone else stated, you might enjoy using them at Vero Beach and Hilton Head.

Exactly what I was going to say! Hold on for a while and see what happens. I am sure it will work out but why make so many big decisions at once.

Congrats on your new job!!! What will you be doing, if not to nosey!:woohoo:

I know this is not too popular, however I would hold on to it until you know for sure the job works out,and rent out your points to possibly pay for your annual dues. Again I know the feelings are mixed here.:)

I have to say that I agree with what Sammie said too. If you can swing it financially without selling then keep them, even for a year.

Congratulations on your dream job! I have dreams of working at WDW but I don't think we could afford to at this time. Can you tell us in what area you will be working? Good luck!!! :goodvibes

I lean towards hanging on to DVC until you know for sure the job is going to pan out. I would be like you, its right in my backyard, so I can go anytime I want. But, you dont know what the future holds. I hope that the new job is all you want and more, but take baby steps. It is a big move, so think it threw.

If you dont mind sharing, do you know what job you will have with WDW? There is a bit of that in me that says I would love to work AND play there;)

Personally, I would keep it, and see how it all pans out. Also, as others have suggested you could use the membership for side trips to Vero or Hilton Head, not to mention weekend escapes right in your own backyard, at one of the DVC resorts, or even one of the Disney Collection.
