HI GANG! HOW GOES IT??
Well, my Rubys days are about over. Let me explain how things happened so it all makes sense. About two weeks ago on a Saturday, I was at Ruby's doing my thing. Waiting on tables, messing around with co-workers what have you. Well, one of the regulars called me over to his table to ask me a few questions. The major one was this: "DENISE, HOW MUCH LONGER DO YOU PLAN TO WORK AT RUBY'S?" I answered, "Until I buy a house!"
I've been with the company for six years and longevity works when purchasing a home. So anyway, Michael (that's the regular's name) said to me that they needed more representatives at AMSOUTH like me. I was floored!! I've been trying to get a teller job at AMSOUTH for months, but everytime I go online the positions are full. Well Michael explained that he worked in the Call Center. When you dial 1-800-AMSOUTH, he's one of the many, many reps you can talk to. Michael then told me the pay and hours at the Call Center are MUCH better that at an actual branch. Now please keep in mind, something I forgot to tell you. I've been working at this particular Ruby's for 1 year and Michael has been coming in for that amount of time with a friend of his. So he based his recommendation on me by watching me wait tables and seeing me on a regular basis difuse a negative situation and constantly making guests laugh!
So Michael got my name and phone number and turned it in to their human resources officer. This was on a Sat., 3 days later on a Tuesday, I received a phone call from Pablo Mathew, the human resource officer!
I dropped my resume off on Thursday and that very same day I took two tests...a customer service simulation test and a 40 question multiple choice test. I was blessed afterwards to be able to schedule a 12:00 interview the following Monday. This was July the 28th. Not only did I get my 1st interview that day, they scheduled my 2nd interview just minutes later!!
A young lady who works in the Call Center recognized me from being there over the last hour or so and said, "You're still here?" she then smiled at me. I responded that I was waiting on a 2nd interview and she said, "WOW!! Already, that usually takes a week or so....congratulations!" I was floored....AGAIN!! So after the 2nd interview I was asked to go sit in the lobby for just a few moments. Before that though, the interviewer told me something which I found odd after I starting thinking about it. She asked me if there would be any reason I couldn't fulfill my 90 day probationary period and I told her that my husband had a concert in Aug and that we were going home for 6 days in Sept., she then said, make sure your tell human resources about those dates. HELLO....WHY DO I NEED TO TELL THEM ABOUT THOSE DATES IF THEY WEREN'T INTERESTED?!
Do you think that was a subtle hint?
So, I now wait for the phone call. I was told 5-7 business days and that was about 4 business days ago. Here's some other good news. One of my co-workers has a boyfriend who works in the Call Center and he came in for lunch one day to meet me and calm my nerves. I found out yesterday from my co-worker that when her boyfriend went back to work on Friday he talked to Pablo(human resources officer) about me and he said that Pablo had nothing but great things to say about me. Pablo also told the boyfriend something that was asked to not be repeated but it was good news too!! So what do you guys think? Andrew (the boyfriend of my co-worker) also said the reason I haven't received my phone call yet is because they are trying to get through to the last of the interviews and they will call everyone one way or the other. They told Andrew 5-7 business days before they called him and it was 2 business weeks before he was hired.
I await anxiously on this phone call. I've heard the starting pay is $10 an hour and that more than matches what I was making hourly and in tips at Rubys. So if I could have a few more prayers and pixie dust, I would greatly appreciate it! I will keep you guys posted and thanks for reading.
Talk to ya soon,
Denise
Isn't it great how GOD works everything out? I've been wanting to leave Ruby's for awhile now, but I could never find the right job...and as many of you told me, it's fallen right into my lap! Also, as for buying the house. I'm going to stay at Rubys through my 90 days at AMSOUTH should I get the job and then I'll go somewhere and have myself pre-approved for a house loan. When, and I mean when not if that comes through, I will say goodbye to Rubys FOREVER!!
