Well, life just stinks sometimes.

Here I've been so excited about starting a new job on January 5 (after being unemployed for 6 months), and my ob/gyn gives me the great news that due to precancerous cells from my D&C, I need to have a hysterectomy within the next 3 months, complete with a full 6 week recovery period. Sigh.

I called my new employer's HR dept. and she seemed fine -- said to schedule and they'll work around it. Just not the way you want to start off with a new job....

Big hugs to you.

My Mom had a total hysterectomy when I was younger.

I just had a laparoscopy in October to remove some endometriosis and ovarian cysts and recovering sucked, I kept saying to my Mom I can't imagine having a hysterectomy or a c-section like she did. :sad2:

I wish you the best and I hope surgery goes smooth. :flower3:

 I'm sorry!! You're right, it's not how you would CHOOSE to start things off, but I'm sure your new employer is fully aware of that. Don't worry about the job, just worry about healing!!!

I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago, if you have any questions, let me know! :flower3:

I'm in same boat minus the new job. I feel for you!

I'm going in for a hysterectomy tomorrow. Ask your gyn if s/he can do the procedure either laparoscopically or with a robot. The recovery time drops to 1-2 weeks as opposed to the 4-6 week period with a traditional procedure.

If s/he says no, maybe get a second opinion. The gyn I generally see only does the traditional procedure, but another associate in the practice does both the laparoscope and robot procedures. She's the one who is doing my surgery tomorrow.

Good luck!

Best wishes tomorrow, Kathi.

She did a test to see if I was a candidate for the less invasive procedure -- I'm not. She did say they'd test again after I was sedated.

Thank you so much!

Hope you can get the less invasive procedure. The thoughts of being laid up for 4-6 weeks made me nuts!

My brother's girl friend just had a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago and she is up and moving around.:thumbsup2
She goes back to work in 2 weeks so that is about a 5 week recovery time.

da Vinci surgery for those that are candidates is a terrific option. I'm not one though. Even had a 2nd and 3rd opinion but its the conventional way for me.

I will be thinking positive thoughts for you tomorrow! I hope you have a really quick recovery. Post when you can please to let us know how you are.

lovesmurfs - thank you! :)

I had a hysterectomy a few years ago. It was done ********* and it was a piece of cake. I had a reaction to the morphine in the hospital which was tough but the hysterectomy was not that bad at all. I was up and taking care of my 3 kids within a week of coming home. I drove at 3 weeks and felt fine. I took pain pills for only a few days as a precaution but I had very little pain.

Good luck!

Good luck, I hope everything goes well, with the operation, a fast recovery & your new job.

I just had a hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. I had it done laproscipally but I was up fiixing my own meals the next day.
I honestly could have gone to work the next day too (well let me clarify, I am a programmer who works from home).
The surgery and recovery was a BREEZE! I have not taken so much as an aspirin since I have been home. One night in the hospital and I was good to go.
I bet you can talk your Dr into releasing you earlier if you are feeling OK.

Mine was two years ago (a radical hysterectomy done via my c-section scar) and it was 3.5 weeks before we were scheduled to go to Disney. I went and was perfectly fine, walked everywhere and felt GREAT!!!

You'll be up and around in no time!

Thanks so much for that. I'm probably going to need a hysterectomy at some point-I've got very large fibroids, but no symptoms. My key concern with recovery is-"How long before I'll be able to go to WDW."

It's amazing what a little WDW motivation will do for you. ;) When your time comes around you'll be fine.

Prayers and best wishes to all who have, or will be having, a hysterectomy. I'm glad to hear you all seem to have recovered quickly physically. Hopefully you all also recovered quickly mentally too.

Kathi -- Hope all went well today and you are resting comfortably.

Happy New Year and Much Health and Happiness to Everyone!

Adding prayers for a speedy and safe recovery. My mom goes in for hers on the 9th of this month. I'm going to ask her if they're doing the less invasive one.

I had mine done lapersoptic(???)...no cutting, done ******lly.

Recovery very, very quick....in hospital 1 night, left there went to Target shopping. Doctor gave me 2 weeks off from work and since I had zero pain, 4 days later, called dvc and went to disney.

Look into this....it was extremley easy.

Thanks for everyone who sent good wishes my way, I guess in the end, someone heard them.

My surgery did not go as well as expected and in the end I did not have the robotic procedure. The doctor had to do a traditional surgery. Immediate recovery was also a little less than perfect - ended up having to get a few units of blood due to a low hemoglobin count and bp that bottomed out and resutured since the stitches pulled out when I tried to get out of bed after surgery. <sigh>

The good things are that I have been able to get around pretty well by myself since coming home and that I've not really been in what I would call pain at all. Discomfort, yes; but pain, no and I'm not even taking any pain meds now.

Bottom line is that as of today I can say I really feel well. Guess that's not so bad, only a week, especially with all things considered. I see the doctor on Friday to have the sutures removed. I'm still hoping I can go back to work in about a week.
