New job and DVC vacation...Help!

I started a new job in August this year and in Dec we are going to WDW/DCL vacation. I let the process run its course, and when an offer was made, I asked about vacation time, for the current year. I got 2 weeks for this year to use, I am only using one and rolling over the other. Most jobs know that if you are the right candidate for the job, that working without you for one week is more practical then working without you all together!

I am a Corporate Recruiter. She should absolutely tell them ahead of time during the interview process. Since they are doing the background check, now would be the best time actually. We always let new hires take pre-planned vacations. But, telling us at the last minute sometimes doesn't sit well with the hiring manager. Always be up front.

Done right, it will not hurt to mention the preplanned vacation (I would use the term "travel plans') as long as it is emphasised that the job is much more important to her than the travel plans.

Let us know how it works out.

The 2nd interview is coming up so we should know soon, hopefully.:rolleyes1

As a hiring manager in real life, I would appreciate being asked by the potential employee at the time of the offer - as long as it is approached correctly. Demanding the time off is way different from asking & seeming willing to fore-go it if necessary. Plus, there's a difference in the timing of the vacation - 6 months down the road is very different from 6 weeks into the new employee training period.

If you don't come across as a flexible employee at the start (being forceful about the preplanned vacation) then it could surely give me pause about hiring you in the first place.

However, if you ask me about a preplanned vacation and offer to change or cancel it upfront if I prefer, than I am more likely to have no problem with it at all if scheduling permits.

Asking me during the interview process makes it too easy for me to give preference to other qualified candidates. Simply put, if two equal candidates are in front of me, it's a factor that could tip the scale in the other persons favor.

Of course, in my case, if you tell me you're going to Disney World, it's a no brainer that I'd let you go! I might even want to go with you!

popcorn:: I want to know how it went too. I hope she get the job if that is truly what she wants and that you all get to take that 2 week trip. :goodvibes

DW met with 2 more people today and was told that there are still 2 more weeks of interviews so more waiting is in order. If she gets it, maybe she will be able to start after the vacation. Based on some online reading, it seems this company can take over a month from the last interview for the offer to be sent. Wish us luck! Thanks for all of your comments too!
