I know there are some out there. I need some help. I took this guy's deposition the other day. He's from Mount Laurel, NJ. When asked what HS he graduated from he kind of mumbled his answer. All I can hear is Hawkins High School. Something comes before the Hawkins and it sounds like it maybe starts with an E, but I can't tell very well because, like I said, he was mumbling. I looked up a list of high schools in NJ and couldn't find anything that looked like what I might be looking for. He graduated in 1975 so I'm wondering if they might have shut the school down since then. Anyway, I thought I'd turn to my DIS friends to see if anyone in the NJ area might know what school this is. TIA.

Sorry, never heard of it either. Did you try Classmates.com? They also have listings for schools that are no longer open.

Mount Laurel isn't near where we live but I did find their Board of Ed website. I doesn't look like they have their own HS which may be why you couldn't find it. The students probably are probably going to a regional HS and not one in their own town. That happens in more rural communities. Hopefully someone closer to that area will have a better answer for you.

Not in my area either......sorry for no help
Elaine

Seems like their students get sent to Medford. I couldn't find anything on a school named Hawkins anything but there is a technical high school on "Hawkins" road in Medford. It's called Burlington County Techinical Institute (BCTI).

Could it have been Pennsauken. It sounds like pensawkin.

I just checked mapquest and Pennsauken is near Mount Laurel.

It could be Pennsauken. I'll go back and listen to the tape and see.

The three high schools in and around Mt. Laurel are Shawnee, Cherokee and Lenape.

Nope, it's not Pennsauken. It's not Shawnee, Cherokee and Lenape either. Maybe he moved to Mount Laurel after HS, but he says this HS is in New Jersey. DH says it sounds like he's saying Edson Hawkins High School. Does that help any. He also makes a mention of Cherry Hill, NJ if that helps any.

Did he say he was from Mt. Laurel now or grew up there?
My husband went to Cherokee, but that didn't open until 1978. People from mt. laurel currently go to Lenape which is part of the Lenape regional school district. I think that the three high schools were all built in the 70's. Given that Pennsauken High has been around much longer, it is possible that Mt. Laurel residents went there at some point.

The Edson that your hearing could be Edison. But Edison is not in Southern NJ ~ it's in Central NJ.

Edison what though? There's a word that comes after it. I wish there was a way I could post the audio so everyone could hear it. It's just really hard for us to understand what he's saying!!!

Could it possibly be Manahawkin High School? Not in the same school district, but maybe 45 minutes south of Mt. Laurel towards the Jersey shore.

Actually there are four now, Shawnee (for Medford, Medford Lakes, was a smaller portion of Indian Mills and Shamong)

Cherokee ( for Marlton, Marlton Lakes, Evesham, and Evesboro)

Lenape ( for Mt. Laurel, (a very huge township), and formerly Southampton, Vincentown, part of Indian Mills, and Shamong (the portion that did not go to Shawnee)

Seneca -- now this school is for Vincentown, Southampton, part of Pemberton/Southampton border (up to the four mile circle), Hampton Lakes, Mobile Estates area, Shamong, Indian Mills, Southampton Township, Buddtown, and small section of Easthampton that is not sectioned off by Rancocas Valley High School)

There is also a Burlington County Vocational School in Medford NJ (that is off Hawkins Road) there is also a Northern Burlington Vocational School, in northern Burlington.

I am near Cherry Hill NJ right now. Cherry Hill is in antoher couty than Mt. Laurel (Mt. Laurel is in Burlington Couty, Cherry HIll is in Camden County)

Pennsauken is basically at least 30-45 minutes from MT. Laurel (thats on a good day without traffic), and Pennsauken is also in Camden County versus Burlington County (where Mt. Laurel is )

Pennsauken residents never went to Mt. Laurel schools. Mt. Laurel (from what I could tell) would go to Lenape (I graduated from Lenape High School) . Lenape high School first class was in 1965 I believe, so if this person is over 50 years old, they would have gone to Lenape.

There are a few alternative schools in the area where students would go if they have behaviour problems... these schools/sites would be:

Ancora
Hampton Hospital
Archway
Deveraux (pronouced Deva-ro)
New Lisbon State School
Burlington County Special Services
YALE School (Cherry Hill)
LEAP Academy (Camden--Camden County)

There may be some military schools as well, but I don't know them .

There are some private schools as well.

And the OP could write Southern New Jersey DIS'ers because there is a great difference from Norhtern NJ and Southern NJ.

AS for high school in Cherry Hill area.. there are as follows

Cherry Hill East High School (for Eastern Cherry Hill)
Cherry Hill West High School (came into existence in about 1953), prior to 1953, it was called Delaware Township High School

And Malberg Alternative School (part of the Cherry Hill school district)

Neighboring schools are Haddonfield, Collingswood, Voorhees, (that would be Eastern High School I beleive), Audobon, and Stirling High School -- (there may be more that is all I remember)

(I work in this school district, and that is all I can recall)

Pennsauken is actually fairly close to Cherry Hill. (but not Mt. Laurel)

If he graduated 78, he would be about 43-44 years old. There may have been a name change in the school from now.

For example, Malberg may have been called something different than Malberg... (I'm not certain when the name change took effect)

Theres another town called Delanco (sort of sounds like Hawkin), which would be Willingboro, or Rancocas Valley high schools. Thats not really near Cherry Hill though.

IT could be Manahawkin (which is also nowhere near Cherry Hill either, practically an hour away), or the BCIT on Hawkins Road. But anyone from there that goes to BCIT calls it the Vo Tech or BCIT. (My parents live near there)

This is a middle school. Maybe he mumbled because he really didn't graduate and just gave the name of the last school he attened? Just thinking out loud.
