Let me start off by thanking all the people who have posted the very informative information in this forum. Thank You! Without the information I gathered from this forum and www.mouseplanet.com the process of deciding on becoming a member of the DVC would have been a lot tougher.

My wife and I purchased an OKW resale that has a use year of April. We expect to close by the last week of April or the first week of May. My question is; How long after closing will I be able to start making reservations? I was hoping to make reservations for both OKW and the Contemporary Resort Tower for October of this year. Any chance of getting that?

While I don't have personal experience with a resale closing, many people have indicated that they are in Disney's computer within a week of closing. You will probably have to ask member services to look you up, as you will not have your DVC membership number that fast.

if you go through Disney, you are in the MS computer as soon as your financing is approved, which is usually a day or two after first contact with them...days before the contract even arrives for you to sign. We sent our signed contracts out TODAY but made our first ressie this past Monday and we dont close until May 3!!!!

So for those of you going through Disney, dont wait until closing to make ressies..do it now!!!!

As for resale, I understand that you wont be able to make ressies until after closing and even then it may take a week or so before you are in the system. This is just what i have heard..i have no personal experience in the matter.

We closed on a BWV resale in late February. Timeshare Closing Services handled the closing. Closed on a Thursday, was in the computer on the following Monday and made first ressie at that time. Needed to give MS my social security number in order to get my member number.

I've bought a resale last fall and in January. You will be able to make reservations as soon as you are recorded into the Disney computer after your closing. CMs had told me Disney enters resales into its computer every Thursday, although with all the sales activity recently, that may have changed. Once you know that your closing has occurred (I got a notice in the mail), call MS and see if you're in their system yet. As Ralph&Pam have said, you'll have to give you social security number and they'll tell you what your member number is. I did this after each of my closings and made reservations then.
