I am new to the whole "iPhone World". But, alas, my DH and I have decided to purchase two of the brand new iPhone's when they come out on June 24th.

I am assuming that we should expect to wait days (weeks?) for one to be in stock.

If we head to an AT&T store this weekend, can we be put on some list? Or, do you think stores will have plenty in stock on June 24th, when they come out?

Thanks!

Signed, Feeling Like A Total Novice. :rolleyes1

No idea, just sticking my head up to say that the new iPhone 4s rule!

I have read on the Apple website, that Pre-Orders will be taken beginning June 15th.

So...I am planning on going to the Apple store then and Pre Ordering mine. Not sure if you have to pay for it that day...or wait until it comes in or what.

I got my iPhone 3gs last summer when it first came out, and for a while it was near impossible to find one. There were lines 1-2 hours long at most Apple stores in my area. People would track the shipments by calling the stores non-stop, and when a shipment came in, people would flock to the stores to get a phone before they sold out. I think the way I found mine was I found a website that listed what stores in our area had the phone in stock. Once we found a store, we called to make sure they had the phone in stock, then headed to the store to get it in the late afternoon when it (surprisingly) wasn't too crowded. We did still have to wait in line for about 15 minutes, but they said that was the least crowded they had been in weeks.

If I were you, I'd probably preorder it. I believe the Apple store gets in shipments quite frequently, but for a while it sells out fast. That's how it was in my area last summer, at least.

I'm glad you asked this!
I have the original version of the iphone (it's probably considered an antique by now) and am planning on getting the new one when it comes out. I had no idea you could preorder it, and I was wondering if it would be hard to get at first too!

Can you "pre-order" from AT&T?

Not sure. I bought mine straight from the Apple store because AT&T can be a nightmare to deal with most of the time.
Thanks for your help! One more question, if you can... :goodvibes If we buy from Apple, how do we then get AT&T service? We just take the phone there or what? Sorry... I feel lost with all of this technical stuff! :surfweb:

If it is the same as years past, you can pre-order the phone, but it doesn't necessarily ensure you the phone... It just puts you in a seperate line. Every year I wait to get my phone hours before the store opens and never have had a problem getting a phone... that being said I've had family and friends that go hours after the store is open, wait a few hours, and have also never had a problem getting the phone. So if you are willing to wait a few hours you shouldn't have a problem, otherwise you can oder it online ( it's free shipping) or wait a few weeks for it to calm down. :goodvibes

They activate the phone for you right there in the Apple store. No need to make a trip to the AT&T store. All I did was walk in, they brought a phone out, got my information, activated the phone for me, briefly showed me how to use it, and then I was on my way. You still keep the same number. It was definitely much less of a hassle than going to the AT&T store where the people try to sell you extra things and then get into arguments with you

Can you "pre-order" from AT&T?

yes, I was there today to ask all those questions so I can set up a phone for my DD. They are pre sale on june 15th that have to be sold with a credit card, because it is not charged till the 28th. There are also new rate plans involved. the rates have gone down. you can now get a data plan of 2 GB for 25 bucks. so you might want o go to the local AT&t store to get the low down like I did.

Last year we pre-ordered DH's iPhone at the AT&T store and they guaranteed there would be a new one available for him on the day they came out. Two days prior to the day they came out, we received an email from AT&T with the tracking # for the shipment of DH's phone being sent directly to the AT&T store. We were quite surprised that they shipped out the pre-ordered phones in individual shipments to the store rather than a huge case of them.

We arrived at the AT&T store the afternoon that the new 3GS was released and since we had pre-ordered we had no problems at all getting it. The customer service gal went to the back and found the small cardboard carton that was reserved for DH and opened it in front of us and she set it up for him and we were on our way!

We happened to go to the Apple store right afterwards where they had already run out of phones. AT&T store was almost out of the ones that were not pre-ordered.

I recommend you pre-order yours!

I am going to preorder mine from AT&T online and have it shipped to my house. All you have to do is hook it up to iTunes and activate it online. Can't wait for the new phone.
