For those of you following this case, there is some new information.

Last week, the police got a tip that resulted in the draining and search of a pond. Nothing significant was found in that pond. However, they interviewed two new people. Today, they announced that a letter from one of the people interviewed by the police stated that Misty Croslin had taken the children to a party the night Haleigh disappeared. According to the woman, the were all doing drugs. Haleigh got hold of oxycodone and died of an overdose. They panicked. Some guy, named Chad, put her body in a bag and dumped her in a pond.

Now, how reliable is this information? Who knows. The woman it came from is currently in jail on drug charges. The police did interview a guy. I don't know if it was this Chad person or not.

Oddly, Misty's brother claims he went by the Cummings home early that evening and no one was home. Misty claims she was there the entire time. Of course, there are tons of ponds in the area. All the woman could remember was the general area.

There is really very little doubt in my mind that Haleigh is dead. The police have said many times that they don't think Misty is telling them the truth. She recently failed a polygraph test. I doubt very much that Misty set out to purposely kill Haleigh. It is another case of a young girl, poor judgement, panic and tragedy for the child involved.

I've never bought the, "We were all asleep in the same small bedroom and I never heard a thing when she was taken. Somehow, I magically awoke at almost the very instant Haleigh's father was due to return home from work." :rolleyes1

I think there is range of things that could have happened and just about all of them involve the negligence of a teenager who frequently got stoned. All you have to do is think back to when you were a teen and knew "party kids/stoners" who had access to a house, etc. In other words, those that did not have to report home to parents at curfew time, but had pretty much total freedom. What happened at their homes? Lots of drinking, lots of drugs, lots of passing out, a fair amount of hooking up, random people coming in that were "friends of friends" and things like that. It's a recipe for disaster with small, vulnerable children around.

Maybe she decided to leave the kids asleep at home for a few hours while she went out and something happened while she was gone. Maybe she was passed out at home and hasn't a clue what happened. Maybe she had some unsavory characters in the house during the time Haleigh "went missing" and knows that telling the truth about that will make her look bad......so bad that she may get charged as well. Maybe the little girl really did accidentally ingest drugs and they panicked and disposed of the body rather than face the consequences. It's happened before.

All I know is, her story is not credible in the least. Given her age and lifestyle, my gut tells me she was either out of the house and not asleep in the same room OR something went bad on her watch, possibly involving other people who should NOT have been in that house. She's been in CYA mode ever since. I don't think that child has drawn breath since that night, poor thing.

How frustrating and heartbreaking! Reminds me of the JonBenet case. This will probably turn out to be another case where the truth is never known.
:sad2:

:sad1:

Poor Haleigh. I don't understand how people can just throw them away.....how can they live with that?

I thought I heard yesterday they also checked some incoming phone records and the dad had called home 20 times that night and no one answered. (?) I listen in the car so listening to news and kids isn't always leading to clear hearing of anyone.

now it is reported Misy has left town for a few days.

The letter is posted on websleuths as well.

I had heard there were two credible sightings of Haliegh in Massachusetts recently, and had hoped that it meant that she was still alive. Sadly, it sounds like that's probably not the case. :(

:sad2: As a local, two things from the reports have bothered me from the beginning:

1) Haleigh's little brother "Jr." described the man who was in the home as a man dressed in black, had squeeky shoes and the couch was jumping up and down. :confused3

2) When police arrived at the Cummings home at approximately 3:25 a.m. February 10 to respond to the report that Haleigh Cummings was missing, the washing machine was running.

Who does laundry at 3:25 AM when a child is missing? :guilty:

Yes, I always think about this too.

Easy to know what was going on here!:rolleyes1

I hope they stopped the washer and took whatever was inside it....and the couch jumping, well...only one thing I can think of. :rolleyes1

Amazed I had heard nothing about this, I had to go searching.

So FL police come to Cape Cod, MA to interview brother Timothy who had been in FL when Haliegh disappeared. And at the same time there are credible sightings of Haliegh at a Walmart in Abington, MA about 1 hr to 1.5 hrs away. 1200 miles from FL.

Wow, what are the odds on that?

I think the credible sightings were discredited if I am reading all the reports correctly.

There is a rumor going around that Haleigh's father told Tim Miller (of Texas Equusearch) that the real reason he married Misty so soon after Haleigh's disappearance was not because of deep love, but because that's the best way he knew to keep her in town instead of hitting the road. Kind of, "Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer" type of thing.

If that's true, thn the daddy is much more savvy than anyone ever gave him credit for. Or maybe he just knows Misty WAY too well...........

I would think that the Massachusetts tip-call was taped
and that a voice-analysis can be done comparing the voice on that call to anyone else involved with the case.
Like Miss Misty's brother.

And the report about the man dressed in black & the couch....words fail me. I hadn't even conceived of that possibility, that that little girl might have known prolonged suffering while conscious before she died. I had thought she accidentally/quickly died though some kind of failure to pay attention...

That poor baby.
agnes!

And looks like Ms. Croslin-Cumming's whole family are just a bunch of downright upstanding citizens! Brother Timothy (or Hank Jr?) was arrested in Putnam County (Florida) for grand theft in connection with a gun and her mother was arrested in Tennessee on three charges of fraud and forgery charges connected with Timothy's arrest.

Not that Halleigh's father is a model citizen either, but I guess his arrest back in August on his father-in-law and brother-in-law's say-so could be somewhat tainted...

Annette Sykes, who pops up in some of these stories, is Ronald Cumming's grandmother and owns the house that Cumming's was staying in at the time of his arrest.

And Misty was supposedly abused as a child and someone is in jail for the crime? I had heard *nothing* about his until I started poking around the Internet just now. Can't find a source though.

Oh, here's kind of a 'source' for Halleigh's father marrying her stepmother (to keep her close)...

I don't know a whole lot about this case, but this Misty girl reminds me a lot of Casey Anthony. Both into drugs, both obviously selfish people, both very young, and both hiding a huge secret. Casey killed her child, yet refuses to admit it. Misty knows something about the death of this child, but refuses to admit it. Of course nothing has been proven in a court of law - its just how I see it.

Oh my. I hadn't thought of that way. For some reason, I was thinking some guy and Misty. :sad1:
