This should be my last "first time homebuyer" question, as we HOPEFULLY close on Friday!!!

So...

What happens with the changing over of the electricity, gas, and water? Who does that? We can't get ahold of our realtor to ask her, and we have no clue.

Should we go ahead and change it over now today, with the starting date being on Friday? But then, we aren't authorized to STOP the current owners services, right? Is this something that the SELLER does?

So stressed and so confused. HELP!

If I remember right, you just call the utilities and tell them when you want to start up & give them your info...the sellers have to cancel their own services. The utilities may even be able to tellyou if the other owners have called to set up the cancellation already. The utility usually doesn't have to come out and can just change over the name at a specific time. Make sure your remember everything; when we bought this house, we moved in July..didn't need the heat on...a while later I started calling oil companies to get prices on oil delivery & services...one company was like, "Wait, you're a new owner? We have that house scheduled for an oil delivery next week!" The previous owners' forgot to cancel the oil company! Good thing I happened to call them!

Good luck, and congrats!

You call them all up and have the start date on the day you close. Once you own the house it is YOURS.

Don't forget trash, cable TV, & home phone if you are doing that.

Plus you will need to switch voter registration and get a new drivers license if you want the new address on it. Not to mention calling up any subscriptions you want to come to the new house right away.

And you need to put in a change of address at the post office to catch any mail while you are changing over all of your addresses.

Good Luck!:yay:
