I just got a surprise today when my pre-arrival hotel email came today. It indicated that parking is $12/day at the Hilton Garden Inn Garden Grove. When I booked the hotel in January, there were no parking charges. I checked the Embassy Suites South and the Hampton Inn Garden Grove which are also in the same complex. And indeed, they are all charging for parking now -- ES $6.00 and Hampton $12.

I called and got my parking charges dropped for my stay because I chose this hotel for its free parking. That was the dealbreaker for us. The guy on the phone was very nice to do that. :flower3: He also told me that this is a new thing in Garden Grove, that as of this month, they are required by law to charge for parking (including Residence Inn Garden Grove, Anaheim Marriott Suites, etc.). :confused3 Is that right?

Is free parking going to be a thing of the past?

Anyways, this is a heads up for you all who have booked a Garden Grove hotels -- if you are expecting free parking, that may not be the case. You may want to double check.

I hadn't heard of this either, but like you I'm interested in learning if this is true of all hotels in Garden Grove. We also like to choose hotels with free parking because over a stay this can really add up!

Honestly I would not be surprised. One of the main draws of staying in Garden Grove was for free parking, the closer you go to the Convention Center/Disney the more likely you get charged for parking.

Garden Grove usually makes some sketchy choices, I'm not surprised if this is true.

Oh no! We booked Embassy Suites South in Jan. too and liked that it was free parking! They shouldn't charge people who already booked! Maybe I should try calling them and see if they will do anything. How crummy.

I think most of the hotels around DL charge a daily resort fee, and this includes the parking fee. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza in GG and parking is includes in the $12 resort fee.

This stinks if it is true we leave in 6 days. We booked 6 months ago and DH is a platinum member hopefully we can get it wavied.

We did get our parking charge waived because I told them we booked prior to the parking charges being implemented, and that it was the reason we chose their hotel. If we didn't mind parking charges, we could have booked with the Hyatt, Crowne Plaza, Doubletree, Courtyard, etc.

So for those of you who booked earlier, before March, you could try to get your charges waived by calling them. The hotel was nice and blocked those charges. I did it before we arrived, because I didn't want to deal with it at checkout.

I'm booked at the Homewood Suites in Garden Grove (also a Hilton property) in April, and my email confirmation specifically states that self-parking is 0.00/night. I, too, chose Garden Grove rather than the Anaheim Hilton because I didn't want to be charged the additional daily parking rates. So, far, I haven't received anything from them stating that there is now a parking fee.

Yes, that's what mine says- $0.00 a night for parking. I will print that out and be sure to bring it.

Something seems off about this.

The City of Garden Grove has been trying desperately for years to develop their International WEST tourist district to compete with the facilities available in Anaheim. I can't see them passing anything that could potentially hamper that.

And to pass something like that without the local media taking notice....

Me thinks the hotels just want to start charging for parking and are passing the blame off to the city.
