New Hot Dogs at Casey's

Sounds like for a $8 hot dog were better off getting a plain dog and "Walking the Dog" over to Peco Bills fixing bar for a make over....:rotfl2:

In the spirit of this thread, having hot dogs to-nite!!
Nathan's of course, on a oversized roll, with Nathan's own mustard, Claussan relish, chopped onion, beanless chili, some kraut, a small slice of bread and butter pickle (Claussen again), and a small slice of fried bologna.

YUM!!!

Nobody and I mean Nobody makes hotdogs like Flos......... Summer tradition for me!!! Caseys hotdogs were like eating rubber with a side of cardboard!''''':scared1:
If anyone meanders up north here I highly reccommend a trip up there! :cool1:

We went last week and I had 2 hot dogs from Casey's (my first time ever to Casey's). I got the pulled pork/slaw (I think it was pork, maybe beef, I can't remember now)--and just a plain one.

ITA w/ the posters who said the bun is too big. It is ginormous. I had to rip off the bottom part of the bun when I ate the plain one, and I ate the other one w/ a fork. I think I left 90% of the bun on the tray when I was done.

Other than that, they were both amazing. :)

there are many places in chicago to get a good dog. I have lived in or near Chicago my whole life. The best ever was back in the old days on the south side. We had a guy who used to sell them on the street corner. He also had tamale's. Just a steamed vienna dog on a poppy seed bun. He had the fixens as well, but we always orders a dozen for the family and all we needed was a bag of mustard packets. We called him the pisqualli man. I dont know why, maybe my mom knows. Maybe that was just his name. But I think its not only the fact that they are vienna, but the steam does it all. The pisqually guy had this steamer cart for the dogs, buns, and the tamales. I know another poster said good dogs are bbq'd over charcoal, but take 2 viennas, steam 1 and grill the other. The steamer wins hands down. Dont get mw wrong, buy hotgogs from the local grocer in a pack, ballpark or whatever, and yes I love them grilled even a little crispy brown'd. But a chicago dog is the steamer with the steamed poppyseed bun. Im hungry Bye!!!

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that the menu posted at Casey's indicates they are using banana peppers instead of sport peppers on the Chicago dog. That in and of itself pretty much ruins it. Add that to the crappy buns (without poppy seeds) and the fact that I didn't see celery salt mentioned on the menu and there you go.

The buns are RUINING the hot dogs! :sad2: Ours didn't fall apart, but they were so dry and hard, it made it difficult to eat. I haven't read all the responses, but the nacos ARE on the menu. The ballpark nachos have chili and cheese. Then you can add your onions and jalapenos from the topping bar. I got the nachos with just cheese and then add some of the cheese sauce and peppers. I hate the bun situation, though. I honestly don't know if we'll eat at Casey's again if the buns stay like they are.

Does anyone have a picture? We will be down in a few days and I really want to try one of these

I KNOW what charcoal is. I just thought charcole might be something different.........................We have never heard of charcole in Turin

Come on.....snark, much?

*EYE ROLL*

I feel like this was rude to the person you quoted AND the person who answered you.

You do understand that there may be a language issue in play and that your comment actually could be the rude one?

Celery Salt!
Forgot to add that to the list of what went on my hot dogs the other night..

I think that these new hot dogs slow up the line a lot. :headache: and the chili smell overpowers the classic casey's smell. :sad2:

real hot dogs come from the north east only. if your ever get the chance sahlen's hot dogs are the best.

mustard only. what does chicago know about hot dogs... they got the cubs.

***DROOL*** Shalen's are amazing! Wish we could get those at a reasonable price in NC. It costs so much to have them shipped down here. Dang they are good! Do you use Weber's Mustard? YUMMY!

Hope these new dogs at Casey's are good!

Eww! I can't eat banana peppers so I'm glad you mentioned that.

Then it ain't Chicago style! I still dream about my Chicago dog. Loved those baby peppers and the celery salt. I've had the East coast dogs too...loved those. A good dog is a good dog! A bad dog is horrendous, a soggy bun, travesty! Now, if they could get good pizza that would be better. I've not found good pizza when traveling in the South Carolina or Fla...what's up with that? No NY transplants? LOL
