New Holiday..."Family Day"

I don't know the extent of this holiday...not sure if it's a national holiday, or jsut a provincial one...


but Ontario has introduced a new holiday on February 3rd.
It's a statutory holiday (which means no work/school)
and it's called "Family Day".

It's pretty much an excuse for a long weekend between January-April, because from New Years-Easter there are no holidays.

It's pretty stupid IMHO, like anyone's actually going to recognize it as "family day"...it's just another long weekend.
And another excuse for card companies and department stores to make new junk to give as 'gifts'

But I'm not complaining...we get the day off.

Anyways...opinions of Family Day?
Does it exist where you live?
Are there any strange ecuse-for-the-day-off type statutory holidays where you live?

I want family day -.-
But that's just because I'm still in school.
If we had it, it would be pointless for my family, because my dad would be working it anyways, and my mother would work it (she gets paid to work shifts that aren't hers)

parliament goes into session tomorrow, it should have started a long time ago, but they decided to prolong it.

I had family week at WDW.
And we play games regularly together.
I have family time.

I don't want to miss a day of school for something like that.
I like school.

We don't have Family day, but I would love to have it.

I heard in Russia they have a day where everyone married is suppose to focus on you know what for the day. It is suppose to bring the population back up after all the babies are born in 9 months. Crazy holiday.

We always have family time at WDW. WE play shuffleboard, Ping Pong and my Dad loves to pick me in up in the pool and throw me when there isn't alot of ppl in it.
