I am a lurker on here and finally decided to post! LOL Hopefully, we will be making our first trip to WDW next year. None of us have ever been. Unfortunately, we cannot go this year. Anyway, any ideas of when would be the best time of the year to go? We have two 14-year-olds and two 8-year-olds. The oldest are girls (not twins), youngest are twin boys. Obviously, they will have school, so certain months will not work and I am in school myself, so I cannot miss either. We will definitely be staying at the campground when we come.

Also, any other advice you can offer would be great. I have been all over these boards learning all kinds of things. Oh, love all the pics! I swiped one for my laptop. LOL

TIA!

The first question is, are they in school all year with periodic breaks or only off for Chirstmas, Easter, and Summer breaks?

They have regular breaks and pretty much summer months are going to be the only option. I should have specified that. Anyway, usually they have June, July, and the first 2 weeks of August off. I actually thought the first 2 weeks of August might be better because I thought it might be less crowded than June or July, but read some posts that say that time is the busiest.

We were there the first week in August last year with our daughter and her family and things were crowded at the parks but there were open sites in the Fort. There were a lot of "foreigners" (for the lack of a better word) in the parks. It was hot, humid and it rained in the afternoon, but that is Florida in the summer. The one advantage is they do EMH till 1:00 am at the MK which allows you to go back to the camper in the heat of the afternoon and return after the sun starts to set. Not sure about late June or July.

Coconut92,

:welcome:

You don't save if you're going to stay in a cabin, a trailer, or a tent when you come. The Fort peaking camping times are holidays in the fall/winter like Halloween week, Thanksgiving week, and the time between Christmas and New Years. Also a long spring break time going from about mid-February through Easter/mid-April. High prices, crowded campground, full parks.

If you're trapped in the school calendar like we are I would say as soon as school gets out in late May/early June or one of the holiday times mentioned above. You also don't say what state you're in or how long you want to stay (far away means you might want to stay a full week; closer means a 4-day trip for example might be enough).

My advice is book early and possibly longer than you want (you can always cancel days later if needed). Ask for a discount if one is available to you (Annual Pass, AAA, Florida Resident, etc). I always book room only and not packages. The on-line reservation system only shows current year dates until about early August when the next year's rates are confirmed. Or you can call and reserve 500 days in advance (better chance of getting a discount the earlier you call) but the rate won't be locked down yet.

Welcome to the nut house here. Since you've been lurking you already know how we are around here .

With our daughter, we went to the school several years in a row and pitched a trip to Disney to the teachers and principal (mentioned Epcot a LOT) as a wonderful educational experience. We took pamplets and such with us to the school, They gave her the assignments for the time she would be gone, and did not count her absence against her as long as she wrote a one page report of what she learned in each park each day. That way we could go when we want and avoid the time that all the other kids were out.

Thank you all! I appreciate it. Scimacer, thanks, but we would not be able to go during the school year because my boyfriend's ex-wife would probably not allow it. lol

Bama-ed, it actually is cheaper for us to stay in the campground (I've been pricing rooms/packages for 2+ months lol) and we prefer it anyway as we like to camp. Oh, I live in a nut house, so you all are perfectly fine! :)

I'm just trying to get everything figured out ahead of time! lol

I really appreciate all the info! This site is awesome!!!!

We bought the unofficial guide to disney and it helped us out alot it also has a crowd calender you can use online.Hope this helps

When our kids were younger we went as soon as school was out. Up here in Ohio our kids actually got out sooner than they did in FL so the parks were still not very crowded. The later you wait in the summer the hotter it gets and by hot, I mean HOT (and humid)! I'd go as soon as you can. Have fun!

We have gone both early June and early August, and I would choose early June if I were you. The heat is more bearable and a little less crowded. Florida schools were still in session so only weekends were bad. I also use Unofficial Guide to WDW touring plans that helped tremendously when followed to the letter. Planning is essential even if you don't stay with it completely. Remember that you will NOT be able to see and do everything in one trip especially if you are doing a water park too. Have fun planning!
