Can someone explain the discount code idea to me? I am just beginning to plan our trip. I am thinking of going in mid-May 2003 and staying at the Beach Club Resort. Will there be codes for this time frame or should I book now? Or can I book now and apply codes later? What if I use Disney CLub?

As you can tell I'm full of questions!
Thank you,
Hilary

I think everyone approaches discounts a bit differently. What I usually do is book my resort for the days I want. Then I hunt for discount codes which usually come out closer to my travel date. If the code is applicable and available for my dates, then I switch my reservation to a coded one. I just did this for my fall vacation.

I don't belong to the Disney Club so I can't answer how people approach it from that angle.

With Disney Club you can still change your reservation if better codes become avaliable (at least you have been able to in the past). You do have to pay a larger deposit to book with Disney Club though.

I'm a Disney Club member and the deposit is less than the normal, it's $100 if your a member. We booked the Fall Fantasy package in January for this coming August 2002, for 4 people. I did this first with the DC discount, the FF was not out yet at the time. When the FF package was offered, I called reservations and changed to this package, keeping the same reservation number. The only thing that changed was the price, much less. Then a discount came out (found this one at mousesavers) for $50 off per room (we had reserved two connecting rooms at YC) if you were a DC member. So I called again and got another $100 off. All they did was once again change the total, kept everything the same under the same reservation number. Every time I made a change, they sent new confirmation papers in the mail stating the new price. Discount codes are the best, and mousesavers is always up to date the day they come out. My only advice is to call as soon as you learn of the discount during the time you are going. They only reserve so many rooms for each discount code.

I think Robin is right. The last trip I took I converted a hotel only reservation at ASM to a vacation package with a Disney Club reservation. From what I understand, for room only reservations the deposit is 1 night/room. For a DC package it is $100/room. I had to increase my deposit because I switched to a package.

Sorry if I caused any confustion.
