Hi all! I am new to posting on these boards though I have been lurking around for a few weeks....I thought it was time for me to officially register and say hi! :)

I'm starting to plan our first Disney vacation with our kids--we have each been before but it was before we were married--and we have decided it is finally time to take them (10 & 8).

I am thinking of mid to late October. Hopefully it won't be as busy or hot then. ;)

I am doing a bunch of research and trying to decide what will be best for us. We're going to stay somewhere on the Disney resort--just not sure which hotel yet. Part of me says go for the value resorts as the kids aren't really going to care where they're sleeping and part of me says go for the moderate to be a bit closer to parks/better transportation/etc... So the verdict is still out on that one.

I also need to tack down my dates but we're a little flexible right now and are waiting to see what the school board approved calendar looks like for next school year. I am also hoping that free dining pops back up for October. :D

Anyway.....hi to all and thanks in advance for helping this newbie out!

Good morning, and welcome!!

As to the resorts: Take a look at the descriptions and slide shows at www.allears.net. I'm not sure the locations are as big a deal as the ameneties. (For my kids, that means the pool.) We get back to the resort every day after lunch, so a 'good pool" is a primary requirement. If you do consider moderates, take a look at the pool at Port Orleans Riverside;friends stayed there a few years ago and their 2 boys RAVED about the pool.

Also, give some thought to the meal plan. Your younger child still counts as a child on the plan, which means HUGE savings-- it's something like $11 dollars a day to feed that child!(Snack-- like a bagel or croissant, counter service meal and a sit down dinner.) You, your husband and your older child all count as adults, so it will be closer to $40 a person for each of you. But take a look at the plan, and see whether it's as good an idea for you as it is for us.

Happy planning!

If your dates are flexibile go with November or September, both will be lower crowds than October and you will have a better chance of securing a good deal. October is fall break time in most of the eastern US now, along with longer Columbus day weekends the crowds increase in October, particularly after the first week. If your kid sare out of school so are thousands of other districts and any time schools are out the crowds increase, even if it's just for a long weekend. The weather is iffy as well, many years it is still hot and occasionally it is very cool.

September is the slower month and free dining is often available (ok every year for the past 5+). Disney says it is phasing out discounts this year and Oct last year they were very hard to get with lots of black out dates, attendane and bookings are already up this year so given that last year was hard to get I'm going to go ahead and throw out there that the discounts will be next to non existant for Oct this year.

mid November- Thanksgiving week you would be able to see some of the Christmas decor and would have a much better chance at cooler weather.

Welcome to the Dis!

Go to the top of the screen in the blue and white bar click USER CP, then on the left hand side in the blue boxes Edit Signature and a box will come up in which you can type whatever you want to appear in your signature area. Looks like you have a ticker, your ticker code will be in there, you will need to put the info before or after that code but not adjacent to it (need a space before or after)
