Hello everyone. I thought there might be some interest for this bit of information. I found this article stating that all the Disney resorts are getting new HA rooms with roll in showers with two beds. They are already in POFQ, ASMu, ASMo, and CR. I have seen pictures of the POFQ rooms here.

I thought this may be useful information for someone. Would love to see photos of the other resorts if anyone has them available....

I've stayed at the new POFQ rooms and I did like it. But there is one problem. All roll-in shower rooms will have 2 beds. Because of this I wouldn't be able to get a king-sized bed if that was what I wanted. If I'm traveling solo or as a couple I might want that king-sized bed and I feel it's wrong to not have that available too.

Thanks for the article.
We knew resorts were changing (actually, the thread you posted a link to is a copy of one Bill Sears posted first here).
The article you linked to is the first actual article I have seen about it.

Does anyone have any pictures of the other HA rooms at the other resorts? Me and my traveling partner are now trying to figure out where our stuff and my (giant breed) service dog are going to fit in those rooms, and we'd like to be able to pick the roomiest one!

What type of resorts are you interested in - Moderate, Value, Deluxe, DVC.

Are there any resorts you are especially interested in or not?
Location?

Do you need a room with a roll in shower or just grab bars on the bathroom?

Value or moderate, location/resort specifically doesn't matter too much. Don't need a roll in, stepping up is difficult but possible, definitely need a shower chair or at least enough room to sit on the floor, and two beds instead of just one. Thanks! :thumbsup2

Would love to hear from anyone that can confirm this for ASMo or ASMu. I stayed at POP last October in a HA room. We had a wheelchair and rented a reclining lift chair. I can not imagine fitting everyone and everything into a room with two doubles. We were told the people before us had rented a hospital bed. That seems like it would be impossible with this new set up, at least in a value.

The article seems to indicate that there will still be King rooms available and that this new room time is simply an additional option.
"Y0u will find every resort will have this available probably by the end of this year. The rooms with one king bed will still be available, too."

Is this not correct? Comments?

Good question. I found the article using Google. It doesn't really say if the King rooms are also HA or not. Just that King rooms are available. I'm not really familiar with the site or the company that posted this, so not sure what they're source is (???)...

I'm not sure what the other resorts will have but all of the roll-in shower rooms at POFQ are 2 beds only. Per the CMs at the front desk there are no longer any king-sized rooms with roll-in showers at POFQ.

I find King bedded rooms to be one of the things that WDW is lacking. I've always requested one (standard) and have never gotten one. Note, I've never stayed at a resort where you could pay extra to get a King room - they've always just been requests. I get that most visitors want two beds, so I understand the lack, but I still find it a lack.

Thank you then, that's good to know for a fact.

Well the ADA does say that they have to offer handicapped rooms in all types of rooms that are offered. So by law they have to have king bed handicapped rooms. They question is will they still offer them with the roll in shower. I would think so but who knows for sure until we hear back as people go to WDW after the change.

Something else that is changing by March 2012 is they have to allow us to book a handicapped room online. This is one of the changes that recently happened to the ADA. If AB's are allowed to book online then the handicapped rooms have to also. I think they are doing the 2 double beds in the handicapped rooms because of the abuse that could happen with the way they currently book 4 people in a handicapped king room.

I would guess that if you want to pay the king bed premium like everyone else you can still get it with the roll in shower.

Isn't it a shame that people abuse this. Last October I stayed at POP in a king room with roll in shower because my mom needed it. On our upcoming trip, mom will stay home and DH will come along. DD will probably be fine with a room with support bars. The kids asked if we can do what we did with grandma, and I explained that there aren't that many rooms like that and they're reserved for people who really need it like their grandma. Guess what? At 11 and 14 they get it. It's not that hard. :sad2:

Well... I wouldn't say I know it for a fact. The front desk CMs told me that but CMs have been known to be wrong from time to time.
Hope they are wrong this time.

That was my thought too.

Thanks for your interesting comments. We are DVC members from the UK so not well versed in ADA legislation but I can tell you that much to our dismay we have found that contrary to the promises made to prospective buyers DVC does not offer accessible accommodations in all room types at all resorts so there seems to be either a big mistake on their part or a loophole in ADA that allows this. We need to use extra points to book an accessible room at our home resort because of a family members needs.

Could you please elaborate on the recent changes to ADA for the benefit of a non-American. The reservation process is tedious if you need accessible rooms so anything that improves on that will be a big bonus.

My understanding was that some king accessible rooms would remain and the double bedded rooms would be in addition to those. This will allow for family groups to book one room instead of needing 2 when they request an accessible room but a couple could still book a king accessible room if they wanted. I'll be interested to see how much extra floorspace has been created by the new door placement, I would imagine it will be quite a squeeze in one room with 2 double beds for us with our DS and his wheelchair.

My wife and I do fine with a double bed at home, but staying in a King room is a treat when I travel. Since I need a roll in shower, and we really really want to stay in POFQ next time, I really do hope that CM was wrong Bill!

I have noticed that Disney may or may not be totally "compliant" when it comes to hotel accommodations... I am very interested to see how these things turn out.
