New front loader washers ~ Detergent question

Yikes! What brand do you have? I thought one of the great things about front-loaders was that they were easier on clothes because of no agitator.

It's a Kenmore.

We have the neptune (top loading) but have the same detergent recomendations as the front loading ones.

We use a "regular" detergent, and only use about 1/2 of the amount recommended on the package. We do not water it down.

The reason we don't use the detergents specific for front-loading machines is we can't find any that are "free" i.e. no dyes, no added scents etc.
We just got our LG front loader and dryer today :cool1: and I was reading old threads to get any hints, and I just wanted to say that last week I picked up Tide Free he at Target, for the same price as regular Tide (same number of loads).

I read in Consumer Reports that the Costco brand (Kirklands's?) of liquid detergent is their Best Buy. I haven't tried it yet (our front loader is new so I'm using up the regular stuff first) but it is supposed to work well in the low-water washing machines and do a great job. Has anyone tried it yet?

I've never had trouble with my Bosch with regards to this.

Tide makes an HE "free" version that works great. I hate paying the price though since it's more than the Gain HE detergent, but Gain doesn't make an HE "free". If they did, I'd switch back in a second.

We have the Maytag Neptune & haven't had any problems yet *knock on wood* I'm terrified of the day when the LCD panel quits working, since it will eventually--they all do. The repair bill won't be fun!

Here in the UK we have mainly front loading washing machines and the top loaders you have are expensive. Without fail all the people I know who have used your top loaders on holiday love them. I HATE my front loaders.

The rubber seal traps water and gets smelly if you leave the door shut for too long. It can ruin clothes. It is all to easy to flood the kitchen when the drain has got blocked and you open the door at the end of the cycle. Trying to clean the fluff trap is a nightmare as water spills over the floor. The worst thing is discovering that stay sock you dropped on the stairs after you have put the machine on and you can not wash it until you put the next load in.

All the above problems apply to different brands. By the way Iuse the washing powder tablets and only need one unless it is a very dirty load.

CLH2,

The current detergent I'm using is Kirkland Free HE. Love it-I'm allergic to most detergents and this one isn't giving me any problems.
