i was just on the phone with my DVC rep and she got an email from another castmember that there was a brand new filing (either with the water authority or the county clerk's office...can't remember what she said) about the area where River country was. The DVC office was buzzing on this.

anyone see any new filings?

There has been a rumor for several years that there are plans for a DVC/resort near river country with a western theme. It would take the place of the original area planned for a western theme resort back in the 1970's that was never built. Would not surprise me to hear that Disney may be looking into proceeding with this plan since DVC's are selling well. Only time will tell.

I agree a rumor that has been around for a long time. There are actual blue prints out there as well of resorts that are planned for the area. Western theme is one rumor, wilderness lodge DVC is another rumor, as well as fort wilderness DVC. DVC resorts around or near the monorail and MK are hot tickets right now and Disney is taking advantage of this.

I checked South Florida Water Management District, nothing filed there.

I wonder if they plan on moving to this location once they have finished with the Poly DVC.

Once they finish the Poly, the only deluxe without a DVC will be the Yacht Club. But I don't think they have any room to build there.

So they'll have to start looking at "new" areas again. It makes sense that they'll just dust off existing plans.

Hey I am all for new DVC as long as it looks good and doesn't take away from the themeing of the resort or area. Plus they will finally be doing something with the remains of River Country. It has been out there rotting for far too long.

I agree they need to do something with that place, at least people can't see what discovery island looks like today.

As long as they do not destroy the beautiful bike and jogging trail between the Lodge and the Fort I am game. Knowing how Disney operates these days they will likely get rid of it and build a highway towards the new DVC.

Wonderful!!!!!!!

Interesting that a DVC rep would have mentioned it, considering they are the last ones to even acknowledge what is generally common knowledge to the public for months when it comes to DVC projects....

My guess is that rep has heard the same rumor that has been around for years that they will put a new resort or DVC resort where river country is.

Did he drive a Bus at one time?

:rotfl: hahahaha.

but seriously! This would be so awesome if it were true. i loved RC when i went to Disney for the first time. Anything to make that place look less creepy would be great!!! :yay:

Has anyone seen the video that a couple people took at RC recently. Like the other poster said. Music playing, lights..creepy.

My best friend and I both were part of Disney's College Program and since then have both relocated to Orlando. I no longer work for the company, however my friend is now an Electrician for Walt Disney World Resort. He told me last week that he was installing new decorative lamp posts on the road leading up to River Country's Ticket Booths. He said they are actually the old lamp posts from Camp Minnie Mickey. He doesn't have any other details as far as why they are fixing up the area, buts it's an interesting development nonetheless.

They still play the river country music even though it's not open they must not care about their electricity bill much.

Most people when they say this are reffering to a video that was posted awhile back when some people went through the fence into the closed part of the park.

The music that is heard is from the still open part of the park on the other side of the fence. They use the bathrooms for a think the backyard bbq.
