New Epic Mickey game for the Wii

Ever play Kingdom Hearts?

Ever play Kingdom Hearts?

Yup, my son has a GBA version of it, and will probably eventually get the new DS version as well 358/2 (or something like that).

It's true that they also aimed at an older audience by merging Disney characters with Square Enix / Final Fantasy type characters, but I think one difference is that most of the Disney characters in those games pretty much kept their normal appearances.
In this new game, they seem to be giving Mickey (and who knows who else) all new "Epic" type of looks to them. Plus there seems to be a much darker feel (based on the cover shot) with this new game.

I have some concept art for this - I will come back to post it when I have enough posts.

Wow, do yourself and your son a favor and buy a PS2, they are really cheap, especially used now and days. Then pick up Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 for PS2, probably two of the best games ever for it.

I agree that they are good games, but the point is that the Disney characters in Kingdom hearts look just like the normal Disney characters (sometimes in different outfits).
This new game is taking Mickey (and probably other Disney characters) and changing the look quite a bit into something darker, something very different than the characters normal look.

It's definitely other Disney characters. The concept art I have includes Oswald, Goofy, Dumbo, Dwarves, Big Al (Country Bear), and more. Only a few more posts to go before I can show you...

Lol, I actually asked for PS2 for Xmas so I could play Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2...We only own an Xbox 360 and a wii....I owned a first gen playstation ages ago...I've always felt cheated that I never got to play KH. This new game looks promising!

I actually can't view the pictures (that site is blocked at work) so I don't know exactly what you are talking about, but I will prob buy it if the reviews are halfway decent.

Ehhh, I guess I'm a Mickey purist :rotfl: If something's going to be "dark" let it be villains, not Mickey!

The concept art is VERY interesting. I'm interested to see the final product. I wish it wasn't on the Wii though, seems like PS or even X-Box would be a better platform for this game.

As promised here's some concept art for this game that got leaked last month:

Wow, thanks for those pictures. I hadn't seen most of them (I think I did see at least one of them before though).
I can't wait to see what the final product will look like. It definitely shows WDW in a whole new light.

But what did they do to my guy Goofy?

Just learned a little bit more about the game from Joystiq:

"The game reportedly revolves around forgotten Disney characters who, after years of being ignored, have grown bitter. None more so than Walt's first cartoon creation, Oswald the Rabbit. He's the one who spread all of the evil black goo around that you see above. Mickey will apparently have to use paint, thinner and erasers to draw his way through the world, which makes the Wii exclusivity a lot easier to understand."

Wow, this game is sounding better and better all the time. Forgotten Disney characters? Can't wait to see who else makes an appearance.

Further details from Eurogamer:

Epic Mickey is a tale about the 'forgotten' Disney stars: the rides, the characters, the lesser-known cartoons. When nobody any longer cares, they are cast into a dark void; a forgotten world of broken machines and bitter personalities - a bit like Sid's bedroom in Toy Story, but without the friendly furnishings.

This forgotten world is run by Oswald the Rabbit. He was Disney's first creation, made long before Mickey Mouse, and his jealousy of the newcomer has fermented for years. Now, finally, Oswald is ready for revenge.

He unleashes The Phantom Blot to wipe out Mickey and his cartoon world. The Blot pollutes the Disney universe with sticky black ink that makes colours run and fade (as seen on the Game Informer cover), so it's up to Mickey to restore peace and order. And this is where his tools come in.

Mickey has to draw and scribble his way through levels, mending broken bridges by applying the right colour paint or peering through walls after applying thinner. He can even clear rubble from his path by erasing parts of the world.

Our source told us Epic Mickey is a game about thinking and artwork - laterally considering your environment in order to overcome puzzles.

On top of that is a healthy dose of exploration, plus Mickey will be getting "his first makeover in years". "That's why no one's seen his face yet," our source explained, "But he's far more retro than you've seen him for years."

JME W,

once again, thanks for the update. This really does sound like a good game, and it seems like a perfect fit for the Wii.

Now you have me curious to see what Mickey's "new" face is going to look like.
