Hi Folks,

I usually hang out over on the theme parks board. Been a member for about a year now and posted often before a trip I took in December with friends.

Now that the trip is over, they have gone back to real life but I am still Disney obsessed (nobody here can understand that right?:).

I live just north of Boston but would love to organize a Dis Meet for folks in any of the New England states for a meet held likely somewhere in MA at a place convenient to as many people as possible.

Anyone on this board interested?

I've never organized one of these before but there is a first time for everything.

What kind of a meet would you like? Would you like to meet over a meal so we can chat? An activity - such as?
Have you been to a meet before? Tell me about it?
What constitutes a successful Dis Meet?
Where are you coming from so that I can think about a location?
Dates, places and times suggestions

There is a thread going over on the theme parks board about this started by me. You can post there or post here. Also will start one on the DisMeet Board. I was told folks interested in Meets hang out on these boards as well.

Hopefully we can get a good crowd.
Thanks and hope you join us.

I live on the MA/NH border depending the date I may be able to join in.I have never been to a dis meet .For an idea of what to do maybe set something up for the upcoming Pirates movie in May?Someday I would like to plan a new england dis meet trip to the world and meet some some dis fans from up here.

Hi there,

I am always up or a DIS meet. In the past we have met for lunch, we have volunteered togther and had lunch, saw toy story 3 and had lunch and went to the Christmas carol Train Tour and had lunch along with a cookout on Memorial day and a fun water park weekend with dinner.... As you can see we like to eat. I was hoping to get the New England group togther to plan a group fundraiser for power of 10.... Maybe this could be a start

Val & I would be interested in another one of these.

We've got a bit of traveling in our plans over the next few months, but if we are around we will try our best to be there!

Hi from the North Shore!
We would love a meet!! Have never been to one, but there is a first for everything!
A movie would be good (did someone say Pirates was coming out in May)
Maybe drinks/snacks at a restaurant before/after the movie or instead of the movie...

We are always game too. I like the idea of a fundraiser for GKTW also. We have had fun getting to know some really great people from the DIS at the New England meets! :)

Yup, we've had a few meets so far...need to start planning the next one.

Hmm...I see some north shore people...Kowloon is calling :)

(I'm a Saugus native, living in Metro West now...)

Hi! I assume you are soliciting for opinions and advice and I'm full of both. :)

There are several ways you can run a meet. As you already mentioned you can pick a restaurant for all of you to gather. It's a quick, fun way to do it. There's little planning that's needed, food & beverage are all right there, the venue is accessible and ready.

Another way is a way we do our meet in Indy. Find a small hall or gathering place that does not require you to use their catering services or food. Have everyone who attends bring a covered dish to share (pitch-in). Organize a few activities and make it a 3 or 4 hour meet.

Look for other places to meet where activities take place everyone can enjoy like a bowling alley, or fun & games arcade with a restaurant, or even a mall food court.

Activities can range from maybe a small auction for Disney gifts, exchangine recipes, coloring for the kids, pin trading. If you know of someone who will be at WDW (specifically EPCOT) go to guest services and they can provide you with a few Kidcot masks to bring home. Maybe hold a small 50/50 raffle where the proceeds go to the Power of 10 Challenge. If you want more ideas send me a PM and I can provide you with additional ideas.

A successful DIS Meet is pretty easy to define. If you can get just a few people to talk about your common interests and get to know a few other people you've succeeded. It's all about meeting and getting to know other DISers and non-DISers for that matter. We all share a common interest of Disney and theme parks. That's a great place to start.

One final piece of advice. You may want to start a thread on the Meets Board. This way people who are looking for a meet in your area may stumble across it and decide to attend. You can also post a similar thread on boards where you typically hang out.

I hope you guys have a great meet! :)

For those of you reading my Meet thread on the Theme parks board, sorry for the duplicate post, I am feeling lazy tonight.

Hi gang,

quick check in. sorry I was not on the Dis all day. Bit busy. I hate when life gets in the way of Dis'ing.

I made a spreadsheet (in typical Dis fashion:) ) of everyone who responded here and on the Theme parks board where I also posted.

So far there are 40 people, maybe more with spouses and famillies if Dis'ers, interested and the group comes from all over New England. I still need to post on the community board and on the Meet board and that will likely get us a few more. Never dreamed there would be so much interest so quickly but it seems that the New England Dis'ers are hungry for a meet.

I need to go and reseach some of the links posted that will help me and start thinking about dates times and places. Thanks to all for your advice, links, suggestions and encouragement. I am looking forward to doing this.

I will be in touch with some polls very soon and some ideas of what we can do.

Keep on making suggestions and telling me what you would like.

If you are interested and have not already chimed in, tell me where you live so I can get an idea of the best geographic place for most.

Be in touch soon. Thanks!

Would you be inclined to have someone from the south attend?

Of course we would. Everybody is welcome!

(but it is a bit far to travel just for chinese food) popcorn::

I know the Indy people have quite a meet each year. Maybe we could pick their brains!

But Jeff, Kowloon is SOOO much MORE that Chinese food!!!! It's an experience!!!

Doconeill's wife chiming in!

Hey Tara, I would be happy to donate some time and do chair massage for the fundraiser! Let me know what you think!

TTFN :tigger:

We live in Central MA. I've never been to a dismeet. I just asked DH and he's not sure. Kowloon looks interesting. If there's something to eat he will prolly come. If not, I might go solo.
:)

Why don't we start tossing around some dates?

...here's the wind-up...
...and the pitch....

Memorial Day weekend? (was that a strike?)
