Hope this helps Julie :)

I am a Southerner, so I might not know if there is an "official" list of New England states, but I always put NY and NJ in with them. After all, how much more New England can you get than 2 states named after English counties? New York- New Jersey...

I don't consider tham Mid-Atlantic states- they would be more NorthEast states to me, but I really consider tham New England.

In my travels and opinion Connecticut, North of Hartford is looks like New England. South of Hartford it is more of NYC Metro area that includes a large part of New Jersey and New York state, South of I-84.

More important is the Yankee/Red Sox allegiance!

Vermont was born as the 14th state out of a boarder dispute between NY and NH. Parts of Vermont still feel like either upstate NY or NH.

A couple years ago, isolated portions of Vermont voted to secede and rejoin NH, however, NH politely declined.

Well I'm from RI(or, Rhode Island and Providence Plantations to be exact) -I can't tell you how many times I've been mistaken for someone who lives just outside of NYC(as in Long Island).

Connecticut may not want to be New England, but it most certainly is.

New York is NOT New England. It is New Amsterdam, New Netherlands.

I suspect that a lot of people confuse New England states with North East states. NY & NJ would certainly qualify as North East states. :teacher:

I deal with these distinctions a lot (a lot) at work, and this gets my vote. :)

I agree with Nikki, we definitely do not consider ourselves to be New Englanders, not that there's anything wrong with that. :goodvibes

I was hollering at Pete and Julie this morning. Yes Connecticut is a New England state and proud of it I am a former New Englander and always a New Englander at heart:thumbsup2

You all are lucky. Miami is sometimes considred New Cuba.

This Connecticutian was dismayed to hear Pete kick us out of the New England club! I grew up in a pretty little town south of Hartford (most definitely looks "New England" near the CT river. :)

It depends on who you ask, but it seems that Connecticut has been slowly seceding from New England. Perhaps it was when Robert Kraft thumbed his nose at Hartford over their stadium proposal... :)

To this Californian you're all just "the East Coast". :)
