New Early DVC Golf Membership Perk!!!!

So because I'm feeling way too lazy this morning to even try to figure this out myself, which is the better deal. The AP 30% discount or the DVC membership discount? This is assuming he will golf maybe only 2-3 times in a given year on the DVC membership.

Ignoring that you have to pay for the DVC membership card, the discounts for DVC will be better than the 30% AP except for playing Palm or LBV (the lowest regular priced courses of the four) in the prime Jan through April season, where, under current prices, the AP discount will be about $3 better ($106 a round with AP discount). If you play only 2 to 3 rounds a year (and only one person playing), it will be a close issue as to whether the difference in discounts makes up for the cost of the DVC card. If in prime season, likely not and stick with AP, if in summer or fall season, likely will if courses chosen are Osprey or Magnolia and you play three times, but much closer issue if only two.

I just went to the member perks site and read the DVC Golf member info. It is definitely a little confusing. The text says normal rates apply before 10AM, but the chart shows the before 10AM times being only $20.00 more than the after 10AM and when I went to the reservation site, I was given the $59.00 rate for each course before 10AM for June 10, 2008.

As far as the AP discount is concerned, remember that the discount applies to the "day guest golfer" which is usually $10.00 higher per round than the resort guest green fee. So for the June 10 time, the day guest fee for Osprey and Magnolia is $109 and for Palm and LBV $99. That means the AP rates for each of these is $76.30 and $69.30 respectively. So 5 rounds on LBV is the break even point for the DVC Membership vs the AP discount.

For us, since DW and I usually play together and usually have another golfing couple with us it is always a no brainer for the DVC Golf Membership. I'm planning a Feb '09 5 day 5 round trip for 4 guys and that will definitely pay for the Membership.

Another thing to note is that DVC Rate seasons DO NOT coincide with the wdw rate seasons. Early May is considered peak time i.e. $139-169 early AM, but is in value season for DVC rates $59 so I got a net $100 off the round at osprey before paying for my membership. It would have been $118 with the AP $169*0.7= $118 using the day rate at that time. So in my case it pays for itself in one round!!! BWAHHAHAHHHA!!!

<<------------------------------wife giving you dirty looks:lmao:

seriously though, I am happy about the earlier tee time.

They may have opened up the discount to earlier tee-times, but they also increased the after 10:00 rate by $9. I'm treating my Dad to two rounds on our October trip, and even going with the lower, later rate, it's going to cost me $36 more than I originally planned. I'm happy about the possibility of an earlier tee-time, but not so happy about the price increase.
