Can anyone help us?!!
We are new to DVC (joined jan 07) and have just booked for 10 days in SSR (our home resort). We are having a Disney wedding on 5th December (all booked!!) and hoped to get a 3 bed villa in OKW...no chance!!!
We assumed as SSR was our home resort there would be no problem in getting a 2 bed & a studio (as we haven't got enough points for a 3 bed there) to put up as many wedding guests as possible!
Member services told us that one of our nights is not available for points and therefore must be paid for in cash. The night for cash happens to be the day after our wedding, meaning we'd have to leave the accommodation early and move to three 1 beds, then move back again the next day to the 2 bed & studio...or pay the $724 + tax. We can't really afford this due to wedding costs etc.
We are very disappointed about this and wonder if anyone knows a way round it.
Any ideas/ advice would be welcome.

Book the nights that are available right away if you haven't already. Then ask to waitlist for the night that is not available. There's a lot of time and chances are the waitlist would come through for you - probably fairly quickly.

Good luck!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!:cloud9:

Carol is right, you've got plenty of time for the waitlist to come through. I think you'll be fine.

This was a little bit of a lesson for the future. Early December is the
most popular time of year for DVC members to use their points, and many of your fellow SSR owners were booking up those villas 4 months ago, at the beginning of your home resort booking period.

I know wedding plans happen when they happen; heck, you may not even have been engaged 4 months ago! But I noticed that you thought that being an SSR owner would have given you an advantage. The only advantage you get is being able to book SSR at 11 months out, when other DVC owners can book at 7 months, and you share that advantage with all of your fellow SSR owners. Experienced DVCers know that to get reservations in early December, you need to be on the phone at the beginning of January.

The positive side of this, is you probably won't have this problem at any other time of year. It's usually pretty easy to get SSR reservations, even within the 7 month window.

In addition to making the reservations for the nights that are available and wait-listing the one that isn't, see if there are rooms at any DVC resort for that night. If there are, reserve them and wait-list at SSR. if the SSR wait-list doesn't come through, it'll be a pain to swap rooms, but at least you'll have a room.

Absolutely book what you can and waitlist for what you still need. The chances of the rooms at SSR coming through as quite good IMHO since there are still a couple of buildings not open that may be available by Dec thus adding more rooms to availability. I had a waitlist come through for NYE at the last minute last year so anything is possible. You could also waitlist for the OKW GV for your time period. Good luck and pixiedust: pixiedust:

Congratulations on your engagement and pending Wedding, you have picked the most magical place in the world for a wedding. Just waitlist and it will all work out.

As mentioned above, congratulations. Also, on a side note, are you aware that your wedding date is also Walt's 106th birthday? Pretty magical day if you ask me.

Everyone is so kind here:goodvibes thank you!!

Carol - yes we have booked the nights that are available and are going to waitlist that one night and hope it comes up.

Lynne - it was definitely a lesson for the future!!! We didn't realise that early December was so busy....but we do now!!!

BirdsofPreyDave - There are rooms available that night -3 one beds in SSR. But we didn't really want to be getting up early and getting out of the room for 10am the morning after the wedding party, then hanging around till 4-5pm to go to the one beds! just seems a nightmare...but if we have no option then thats what we'll have to do!!:sad2:

castleri - We didn't realise that there are a buildings at SSR not open yet..so thats very promising!! We thought about waitlisting for GV at OKW but thought we'd have no chance.
How many places can you waitlist for?

Didney Daddy - I agree its the most magical place. We considered Vegas - anywhere but the boring old UK but it made the most sense to look at Disney...... we are so glad we did! the only thing is the old relatives think its tacky...good we didn't want them there anyway!!

dvcnut39 - That is so fabulous!! We never knew that. We just grabbed the only available date for the time we wanted..it is fate:cool1: I am so happy..well even more now!! it'll make the day even more magical!!:cloud9: :rotfl:

Thank you all :bride: :groom:
