I was talking to MS a couple of days ago to bank our unused points. I asked a couple of questions about ticket options for our upcoming trip home and the CM I was talking to suggested we wait as long as possible. He said they have been told that an anouncement on a new DVC ticket disount was coming very soon. Anyone have any insight or info on the latest rumors?

DVC did a survey a while back asking about ticket discounts. It has been widely speculated here that they are going to give a big discount on AP's.

Here is a very big thread on the topic: Ticket Discounts

Thanks HBC, I haven't been on the board for about a month (too busy) but I knew there was a lot of earlier discussion on this topic. Personally I am pulling for the AP discount, I just hope any new discount is introduced before our first trip home (for some reason my counter says 12 days but it is really only 7). The AP discount would be just one more reason to make a second trip each year. This could certainly work well for Disny as we would spend much more than the disount.

I agree with you av8tor. Right now we buy an AP and go two or three times and then skip almost a year. If we received a 25% discount I could see us changing our schedule to go more often in what would be our "off year". There are six in my family and a discount like that would make a big difference.

I just learned tonight the Disney changed the AP policy a few years ago and if your wait to renew, the new AP gets back dated to the expiration date. How long after AP expires do you have to wait to get a new AP without it being back dated?

You can do it any number of days, just tell them it's not a renewal of the old ticket. I always bring my old AP's with me and hand them to the CM (it makes it easier to get 6 new ones that way because our info is stored on computer) and tell them that it isn't a renewal because I don't want them back dated. That actually happened to me right after they changed the policy and I didn't even realize it until we got home and looked at the back of our AP and saw the date. When we returned, they fixed it and gave us new ones but we had to go to City Hall on Main Street in the MK to fix the problem.

HBC, if you do that, you pay full price for the AP, right?
No renewal discount?

That is correct, no renewal discount. That's why you can do it anytime.

If you want the renewal discount, they will start the renewal AP when the last one expired.

I'm hoping for the AP discount too...it would probably convince us to get away from the PH tickets we currently buy.

We'll I'm hoping that they give some discounts on all ticket media. We don't use AP's because we just can't get enough use out of them at this stage in our lives. I think it would be nice to discount the hoppers too, so that every DVC member gets some benefit from the discount. (I guess we can dream right?:p )

Wow!!! I hope it's true!

We were planning on AP's for our March trip, so I do think I will hold off a while on purchasing them ;)

I would think they'd offer AP discount over PH's because they'd have more control over who gets the passes. I wonder how this would work with renters - would they be able to get the discount, too? Maybe Disney is trying to think of a way to give us discounts, but keep a tight control over who gets it?
Sorry, I'm just rambling (talking to myself here).

I'll believe that Disney will give discounts on park hopper tickets when I see it. I won't be holding my breath.

I was thinking about this as well. If they give a discount on AP's they can control who they are for because AP's have your name on them. If it is Park Hoppers, people might be buying passess for all of thier friends as well. I guess we will see.

Keep in mind that the only reason Disney would discount anything is if they thought it would make more money overall.

If they discount the AP's, then maybe more people would buy them. And make more trips to WDW, or go to the parks more often once they're at WDW and spend more money on concessions, souvenirs, etc.

If they discount the PH, then I don't see what Disney would gain vs the current situation. The only thing I could see is that people might go from a 4 Day PH, for instance, to a 5 Day PH. Or from a PH to a UPH. But I'm not sure that would bring in more revenue overall for Disney.

It will be interesting to see if the discount becomes available. We would probably upgrade from PH's to AP's if it does, and spend less time at other non-Disney places that we do now (about half the days).
