New DVC Rent/Trade Board option - 4/18/11

Do the papers have gold listings, next to the renters names this could be misleading for many.

A newspaper has no basic need to designate between people who have paid, or not paid. The R/T moderators need the icons to let us know which posters we need to research for the 50 posts before approving the thread. Moderators do not have access to the payment system.

In a newspaper, it is safe to assume that ALL people posting a classified ad have paid for the priviledge, it is also safe to assume that those advertisers with full page color ads paid more than someone who lists a classified ad. The newspaper rarely is assumed to make any endorsement of a classified ad, it simply prints what itis paid to print.

On the DIS, the icons are also a means of letting potential renters know which owners have paid for their ads, and which have met our basic posting requirements, The icons carry no endorsement of the posts, or warranty of the poster's performance...any more than a newspaper advertisement, classified or full color page, carries an endorsement by the newspaper (or yellow pages ad) in which they appear.

IMHO, not allowing DVc transfer requests will be a hardship for many DVCers who need to make a special reservation and need a points transfer. Since we are only allowed 1 in-out per year, many who advertise points will not want to do it for a small number of points. Since there is only 1 transfer per year, this is not a commercial enterprise. It's DVCers helping each other out.
I bet if you polled disboards for an entire month, you would not find anyone who ever had a points transfer problem, esp. since it has to be done by phone with MS and you need both DVC member numbers. Thus, I would ask that the moderators reconsider allowing DVC points transfer requests.
thank you, Elaine

I agree that they should reinstate it. I wonder if a) they will add a "paid" option later, or just let it go. I understand not letting "Reservation requests" since that is/was similar to Spec renting (although, look what happened to that.) and b) Daddio is a sponsor and I would imagine gets a lot of points transferred via the R/T board, I wonder what's going to happen with that?

Chuck, I'm sure everyone understands that the mods need some method of determining whether a prospective poster is subject to the post-count requirements or has been granted an exception. And the use of a visual indicator, rather than requiring mods to look up each poster, is a sound idea. That's not the problem.

The problem is what you call those classifications. I think that if you just eliminated the words "Gold" and "Premium," this issue would go away.

Surely, someone can come up with better designations that do not look like an endorsement, or an indication that a poster is somehow "better" than a poster without a logo.

No matter how many disclaimers you put...or how many times you say the ONLY reason the person has a cool logo is that they paid for it...or how many times you try to explain it on this thread -- Gold and Premium are always going to LOOK preferable.

Gold or Premium means better, pure and simple.

Lose those two terms and I think you have a good solution.

The icons and wording under each clearly indicate that they are a paid program.

Just to clarify, if I want points transfered to me, I can't post "Points Transfer Wanted," but I can respond to a "Points for Transfer" post - even if it's unrelated?

Example:

"Points for Transfer AKV 200 April 2011 UY" (or whatever is correct for posting)

I can just reply with:

"Does anyone have 90 SSR Points for transfer $11pp?"

This is legal/acceptable?

I am SOOOOO disappointed to see the new transfer request rule! I just agreed to use some of my points for my family to go with us to WDW and in return I was planning to post a Transfer wanted thread for a 2013 vacation that I wanted a specific resort for!! (trying to leave out the details to avoid this getting edited!!)

Its going to be infinitely harder to get those points without a Transfer Wanted thread given all of the specifics that are required to make that type of transaction work!!

I really hope that you reconsider this or allow it after a post count etc...This is truely a DVC to DVC related effort very unlike renting to a non-DVC owner in my eyes!!!

Me too. It doesn't make sense, and no one ever explains the rules. We want to get a transfer for a Hawaii trip next year. I only need a certain amount, so as far as I'm concerned the DIS has no interest in helping owners find each other.

can someone tell me what EVENLY posted means for the six months?

do you have to have at least 10 posts per month for you to be allowed to post a rental/transfer? or less?

i recently was denied since i have 85+ posts, but seems only 2 posts per month for december, january and february. i had 9 in november, 16 in march and 55 in april.

what should the distribution be if i posted 55 in april?

In reviewing the past 6 months, as long as there were 50 posts with at least 8 posts in four of those months, the requirement would be met. Please realize that the requirement will change on a daily basis based on that assessment.

As of today (April 26, 2011) the mods would look at posts from October 27, 2010 thru April 26, 2011 on a monthly basis (10/27-11/26, 11/27-12/26, 12/27-1/26, 1/27-2/26, 2/27-3/26, 3/27-4/26.

For December, January and February, as you describe, you would not have enough posts to qualify.

I hope this helps.

Transfer requests may be made in any thread where the OP is offering to transfer points. This will usually be titled "Points for Transfer" of "Points for Rent/Transfer".

Owners wanting to transfer their points may submit a "Points for Transfer" thread to be validated based on their posting history or purchase the ability to post the same thread.

Thank you, Doc. I appreciate your response. I posted before my last one - about what is allowed in a "response to a post." Is what I said valid about posting a reply to "Points for Transfer" that is unrelated and basically a "Point transfer wanted" inside someone else's "Points for Transfer" post?

If you are looking for a transfer from a specific resort, you would need to make that request in a "Points for Transfer" thread where the owner is offering points from that resort. You cannot make a general request for a transfer in a "Points for Rent" thread, a "Reservation for Rent" thread and , if the OP of a "Points for Transfer" thread is only offering points from AKV you cannot request points from another resort as that would be seen as a "Transfer Wanted" thread.

I really seems that everything has to become more complicated with time. There appears to be a natural tendency to create ever more regulation and restriction rather than simplifying and making things easier for members.

You're right in the sense that questions sometimes get answered with just a repetition of the rule itself.

As far as the reason behind the new transfer rule, I'm assuming (and I could be wrong) that the mods consider a "Transfer Wanted" thread the same as a "Reservation Wanted" thread.

I think the mods are trying to control things by controlling the input of the points by owners through the post-count or paid qualifications. If they allow someone to post their needs, any poster could respond to those, which becomes a free-for-all and would render the controls in place useless.

That's the only thing I can think of.

I think they are trying to rejuvenate the R/T board in a way that works for as many people as possible, while maintaining controls they feel necessary. They're not going to be able to create a system that is perfect for everyone, and it will probably be necessary to go elsewhere for some types of transactions.

That is frustrating.

And then the masses are left to interpret, just as you've done. Are you correct? Who knows....

It leads me to believe there's another reason, something that'll get a person banned for mentioning.

I agree that these new rules are not perfect for everyone. You will notice from my post that I have over 3,000 responses, and I'm a Silver Supporter of the Dis, which means I donated money to them. I am irritated that with all of that, I still can't post on the rent/trade board. I can't post to the rent/trade board because I don't have 30 posts in the last 6 months, but not because I did anything wrong in renting/trading points. So I decided to contribute, in order to regain my right to contribute on the rent/trade board, just like I can contribute on any other board on this site. It still irritates me, though, that I have to contribute to the boards in order to access just one board.

You're paying $60 per year as a DIS Silver Sponsor -- but you can't post and someone who pays $25 can?

I'd bet that is nothing more than a mistake that nobody's noticed yet in the rush to try to get all this implemented.

It seems obvious to me that anyone at the Bronze Sponsor level ($40 per year) or higher should be allowed to post on the R/T Board. That's just an unintended consequence, and I'd bet it gets corrected.

In fact...you may have stumbled onto a solution to the Gold/Premium issue...

Mods...how about changing the requirement to either meeting the posting criteria...or be a Bronze or higher level DIS Sponsor?

That's $40 instead of $25, and you can grandfather in the handful of folks who have already paid $25 and change their logos to Bronze Sponsor. It eliminates a lot of confusion, extra work and controversy, and gives the mods an easily identifiable visible cue that the person is cleared to post.

Also a reminder that you may still submit a new thread to the Rent/Trade board without cost if you meet the requirement of 50 non-Rent/Trade posts evenly distributed over the previous 6 months.

Those seeking a rental are welcome to respond in any thread offering a rental or reservation without regard to their number of posts. There is still no cost to reply to an existing thread and no cost to submit a thread for those meeting the posting requirements.

Is there consideration being given towards re-introducing "Reservation Wanted" threads in some shape or form for posters who either meet the minimum posting criteria - and/or - pay to post?

Thanks,
Zebsterama
