New DVC owner needs help!

Hello we closed on our BCV on Nov 5. We are anxious to book a trip and are thinking a trip to Disney Land and try out DVC.

Here is my problem: I can't get on the DVC member site until I get my member # to see availability. I have hear it is impossible to get DVC @ Californian Resort!
It would be a trip for just me and DH so studio would fine!

Is their way any one could give me advice or a time when it might be slower!?

We are thinking Feb 24- March 1st.

Just did a quick check, there is no studio availablity for those dates.

There is 1-bedroom availability Feb. 26-1, and both 2 and 3 bdrms available for all those dates.

Not sure what is considered "slow" time for VGC!

There are a very limited number of Studios at the Villas at the Grand Californian. At a maximum, there can be 23 Studios. The Studios are all part of 2-bedroom lock-offs and for each 2-bedroom lock-off that's reserved, there's one less studio available.

Would you consider the DL Hotel or PP or maybe even a regular hotell room at the GC? You might be able to get a room at one of those for points - you'd have to call MS to see if there is availability and to book.

Not impossible but VGC is tough to book once you're past the 7 mnth window. June has just opened for all DVC owners and already studios are pretty much gone. If you're willing to wait until a quieter time, maybe September, your chances might be better.

We could do 1 bedroom or at last resort a 2 bedroom. We have a large contract w/ plenty points as we don't have a trip planned till 2014.

I bought a resale contract I thought we could't do this?

Does anybody have experience buying a resale and how long before DVC will send me member #?

Unfortunately, I think that's correct.

When I bought resale, I phoned and they gave me my number but I think things have changed.

You are correct, any resale contracts purchased after March 20, 2011 can't be used for Disney Collection resorts.

Typically it can take up to two weeks from the time your deed is recorded/transferred until your account is set up and the points are loaded. Once you get to a week past the date you know your deed was sent to Disney, you can try member administration to see if they can get you your member number and help you set up your online account.
