So I know I can book any resort at 7 months out. Does that mean 7 months from the check-in date? Or does that 7 month window have to include the entire stay?

For example: Today is Sept 12. Can I make any reservation I want that begins on April 12? Or if I want my stay to be from April 12 to April 19, do I have to wait until Sept 19?

I hope this question makes sense. :-)

It is check out date. (but you can call each day to "extend" your check out date)

They now let you book your first 7 days at 7 months, then you can keep calling to extend...
Thanks for the 7+7 rule, you could book your April 12-19 now.

Okay, now I'm confused. And I was doing so good! :-)

So you're saying I could call today and just book one night? And then each day I could call to "extend" my checkout date? And do that seven times until I reached my desired check out date? And hope I didn't come across one random day with no availability?

Thanks for any clarification here. One little bit at a time, right? :-)

They just implemented this "+7" policy this spring, so I may still be learning.

For a stay shorter than 7 days, then yes, you could call day by day at 7 months to extend your checkout date and may get a random day of no occupancy.

For stays of exactly 7 days, you can call at 7 months of the check in date, thus you can book all of April 12-19 if you called before MS closed today.

For stays of longer than 7 days, say you wanted April 12-20, you could book 12-19 (before MS closed today), then call Saturday to add 20...

Or you could wait until Saturday to get all 8 consecutive April12-20 days (if available)

The result of the "+7" policy means that at your home resort, if you get your first 7 days on the exact 11+7 date, you are guaranteed to get the remaining days if you call back every few days. (If you essentially rent room "1A" on the 11+7 date no one else can make a reservation for your room 1A until 7 days after your reserved check out. It is kinda confusing which is why there is a mammoth thread about it) At the 7+7 window you are "only" locking out other 7 month'ers, and may face a future date already booked by the 11 month'ers.

You can call tomorrow, September 13th ( if you didn't call today), and book the entire 8-night stay for April 12th through the 19th.

Are you actually staying 8 nights? Or was the 19th meant to be your check-OUT date. In that case you could have called today and booked all 7 nights.

Ah, the joy of learning the ins and outs of DVC. :)

I was really just asking hypothetically, but do I have this down now?

If I am at the 7 month window, and staying for 7 days, I can call on the day of check-in and get the whole week safely reserved. Any additional days after that must be added on later, one day at a time, as the 7 month window day occurs.

Seems like a good and fair system once you know about it. I won't even begin to hypothesize about WHY this is the way it is. I will just be glad to know how it works. :) Can you tell I probably wasn't good at math? I could usually come up with the right answer but never understood the equation.

Thanks guys!

Yes, that is correct you can call 7 months before check in for that scenario.

"truely good and fair" was debated for seemingly hundreds of pages in that thread. depends on who you are and your situation, but if you feel happy, we'll all be happy for you :hippie:
