new doggie sitter how much to pay?

I pay $50/night and the housesitter (a college student) has the option of staying at my house or coming 4 times/day to feed the animals and let the dogs out. I have 2 dogs and a cat.

If I boarded the dogs, it would cost me $40/night for the 2 of them, and I would often have to pay for an extra night if we were getting home after the kennel closed, plus I would still have to have somebody come check on the cat if we were going away for more than 1 night.

It's much easier for us to leave them at home and pay someone to come in for approx the same cost. It's also nice to know that if something happened at home while we were gone, like a burst pipe or a break in, the housesitter will discover it quickly and we won't be coming home to any surprises. She also brings in the mail and turns on different lights so it's not so obvious that we are gone.

I leave my one dog with a neighbor family and pay the son 35.00 a day. Dog lives there for the week and keeps her routine of neighborhood, walk, etc. I usually round up so on our 10 ten trip I will pay 350 but round up 360 etc. I think it is a great deal for peace of mind.....I would feel cheap paying less

i use to pay my neighbor $5 per walk - and he would come 3x a day - i would only do this if it was for a weekend - anything more than that we would bring him to a kennel........

I breed and show dogs... and my dogs are worth a ton. Even to me $50 per day sounds expensive. I don't have to worry about a sitter as I have people within my breed community who will do it for free, but the going rate I see is 25-30 per day. At 50 a day, I'd expect my dogs to receive a massage and facial.

I think it depends on who you are using. A licensed and bonded agency around here, for overnight stays and daytime too, can run up to $50-75. We usually use college kids and pay around $20-25/day. I usually tack on a bit of a tip if everything seems well cared for.
