New Disney Visa Reward "Cards"?

I know someone mentioned that the Disney Visa was going to do away with the actual, paper Reward certificates that are now being used and going to move (on October 1?) to more of a gift card method for the Disney Parks. Anyone hear anymore about this?

Yes, it's starting Oct 1. You will be able to use the card at TDS, Disney catalog, Disney.com,WDW, DL, ect. instead of getting separate certificates. You can request a card once you have $20 worth of points. And then every $10 after. You will even be able to check your balance on the rewards card at TDS.

I wonder how they'll do it. For example, I'm saving for our WDW trip next August. I'm at $224 rewards dollars, and would much prefer one gift card than multiple $20 cards. I also wonder if you can use the exact amount, or will it still be in $20 multiples (so if you buy something for $6, that amount is taken off the card.

I wonder how long it will be good....I wouldn't want to cash them in too early and lose the benefit.

Can't wait to hear more about it.....I hope to be at closer to $400 by our trip!

We are arriving Oct 2 and I was told by Bank One that you can go to Guest Relations at DD and get the card, then you call the 800 on your credit card and they activate your rewards card to be used right away if you like. I think its going to be a lot easier that way although I do have 2 of the cert and they are kind of neat.
Julia--its my understanding its just one card, I guess they can just add your reward points to it.

Can you get your card before the trip. I'd hate to have to go to DD on my 1st day if that's not in my plans. I'm assuming you could since the card is good at the stores you could probably pick it up there (but that's just my guess)

Downfall?? 1 card?? you can't divide the individual certs to children etc. I wonder if you can get multiple cards tied to 1 account?

The Disney Stores do not have the cards. We were told that you must call Bank One to get it.

I do charge everything, just about!

I also had some unusual expenses in the past few months, that are NOT the norm......annual passes to DL for 5 people, airline tickets to DC, and some expenses for my kids school which I was reimbursed for (prepaying some field trips, for example).

My husband also won free airline tickets to Hawaii, so we have unexpected hotel expenses on Maui, which of course, I charged.

I also have already purchased our hopper passes for our trip next Aug.

I spoke with Disney Visa this morning. All of us will be getting a letter soon explaining the new "card" and how the reward program will work. The web site will be updated after 10/01 to reflect this new program as well. The old certificates are still good.

if you will still have to do get these rewards in increments of 10 dollars? I would think that with going to these cards, they could go with any amounts (i.e. 53, 72, 99, etc.) in rewards since it will be on a card.

And, do you have to go to DD to get the card for WDW? That seems to be a major pain. Wonder why that can't send them to you?

They will be able to send them to you in advance, but if you forget to order in time, you can go to DD to pick one up for WDW.

You'll have to transfer a minimum of 10 each time (20 your first time), but can transfer any amount above that.

It's kind of neat you can get a card at DD. I was imagining I would have to apply for me rewards in June, to assure I would have them in time for my August trip. Now I will be able to accumulate dollars from my June and July statements (more money to spend!)

didn't think about getting another month of rewards by picking it up at DD! Maybe be able to get another 10 rewards. Where in DD do you pick these up?

They can be picked up at Guest Services at the East or West Side of DD. I talked to BankOne and was also told that the paper reward certificates will be phased out during October as the cards are introduced.

I was wondering if I get the card before my trip and earn more points can you go to DD to have the new ones added. Did anyone ask this question?

asked it but its a good question. I would doubt they would do that but it would be nice. Still hate that they are only doing increments of 10 still. Can't figure that one out.

Increments of 10 are just what you must have in your account to order the card (20 first time, 10 every time after that), but you can transfer any amount above that: 13, 47, 91 - you don't have to tranfer only in 20, 30, 60, etc. Cards are reloadable, so you could add additional points as you go.
