Ok, just finding tons of stuff today. Finally, the new Disney Stores are starting to open. The one in Dallas opens up at Northpark mall by next summer I think. I know the Click on the 3rd video, which is a tour of the first Montebello store.

I'm not sure, but I THINK the guy giving the tour is family, but I'll let you all be the judge of that.

Looks pretty cool and it's nice to see adult clothing and actually items from the parks that you can buy, rather than it being 100% princess stuff.

New DISNEY stores? Totally excited! Our store is pathetic. It is small and 100% kids toys/clothes. I would love some adult merchandise.

Our store is slated to open in October. ;)

Seriously??!!! Last I saw on the construction wall, it didn't have any date info. That's so cool! We can get a tiny taste Disney on a weekly basis now. :) They're even going to have opening and closing ceremonies, just like the parks and have some sort of "magical moments" throughout the day.

Ok, I'm Disneydorking it a lot right now.....

Unfortunately, some of the old stores are closing, but the ones staying open are getting remodeled over the next couple years. Hopefully the the one in your area is on the list to stay. If it's still open at this point, it probably will.

My friend works in commercial real estate and he told me October. :)
Yeah, that opening and closing stuff is going to cause lots of drama. I will remember NOT to go at opening or closing. Ever. And I will probably NOT apply to work there, even for a few hours a week.

What would be dramatic about the opening and closing ceremony like they have at the parks? I'm sure I'll check out the fanfare at least once. :)

And "probably" won't apply to work there? ;) I'm already wanting a part time job there.

Have you not seen the threads about waking up Tinkerbell in MK? These parents get UGLY about things where one "special" child is chosen to do something. So I want no part of it as a spectator OR as an employee. :scared: It says the store will be opened each morning by a child turning a golden key in a lock. On the other hand, if I watch from a safe distance (like the upstairs part in front of Macy's) I bet I could see some FABULOUS cat fights! :thumbsup2

But if YOU work there I will come visit you often. ;)

I never visit the MK threads, so not even sure what waking up Tink means. LOL

I'm sure there will be some pissy parents wanting it to be THEIR child who gets the opportunity. Wouldn't be the first cat fight at the mall I've seen. :)

I would love to get a part time job there, just for fun, but I know it's not going to happen. My life is too busy.

In the Tinkerbell shop at MK there is some little ceremony thing where the first child to the store each AM gets to "wake up Tink". I think some lights flash and there is a little bell noise and the kid gets a piece of paper commemorating the event. One of those little things that before it hit the internet it was just a sweet little extra bit of magic. And now it has gained enormous popularity and people push and shove and fight to be first. Not sure they even still do it, because it seems like they are largely phasing out things where a randomly chosen person gets anything special.

I wonder if they are setting themselves up to have lots of unattended children? They want people to spend THIRTY minutes in the store? Are they joking? The only store I am in for 30 minutes at a time is Target.

But if it is really super fun I can see parents dropping their kids off in the store. Kids with sticky fingers and sticky faces (the store is going in right near the cookie shop). They are either going to have to rigorously enforce NO food or drinks (which won't happen) or the employees will do nothing but clean all day. I can clean up after sticky children at my full time job, thanks. No need to add to it with a PT job at the mall! :rotfl:

Interesting, never heard of the waking tink thing. I don't think DL has anything like that.

I'm hoping the stores are a success though. There's rumors that the store will continue to evolve and carry more and more park merchandise and even eventually carry collectibles and art.

Then again, it's just what I need. Another place to spend money. :)

We used to have one downtown, which was easy for me to get to. But now, since that mall is debunked, defunked and dejunked there's really only one local mall I can think of where they'd potentially consider opening one......but it's way up on the north side of town. :headache: Malls haven't been doing well around here for the past 6 or 7 years. People just stopped going to them for some reason. How about where you guys are at?

Honey, he opened up his mouth and a huge purse fell out. lol

Baaahaaahhaaa :rotfl:

BTW, when we were at WDW in May Tinkerbell's Treasures was gone. I was devestated. It is now Princess something or other. As if I needed to see more Princess merchandise.
No more Tink to wake up!:sad1: On the brightside, I got to meet her in Toontown...what fun. I was shrunk down to the size of a pixie...so magical!

Malls are probably the only way to shop here. We've got numerous large malls. NorthPark is the high end and largest. It's also the first official mall built in America, or so I read somewhere. It's a historial landmark. They recently doubled the size a few years ago. There's also the Galleria, which is another high end mall that's 3 stories. NorthPark rules!

It's too hot for outdoor shopping.

DL Pixie meet and greet is great. There's a park type area with a pond/fountain, large trees, landscaping, bridges. They play pixie noises (?) and you slowly walk to the greeting area and the grass gets taller and by the time you get in you're suppose to feel as if you have been shrunk down in size. Her house is a giant tea pot. At night there's a light, music and sound show that happens every 15 minutes in the trees and pond. Pretty cool!

Holy Crap! Sounds like I need to plan a trip to DL ;) Are you actually in the tea pot?

MM, we have one mall currently circling the drain. YEARS ago when I worked retail there were 3 malls within about a 5 mile radius. Prestonwood, Galleria, and Valley View. Prestonwood went first. Eventually they tore it down, and now it is a strip center with a book store, a shoe store, I think an Ulta cosmetics store, stuff like that.

Valley View is the next to go. They have lost all their anchors except Sears and Penneys. The majority of national chains have also pulled out, leaving a really weird mix of local shops and very little else. It is also not a mall where I would feel safe after dark. They even lost their McDonald's and Chik Fil A, which I have never seen happen in a mall before. The Sears isn't carrying Lands End merchandise anymore so I am finished with that mall.

Galleria is holding on pretty well. I think a lot of tourists go there because it is connected to the Westin. It has Nordstrom and Macy's, plus Gap, Banana, and Old Navy where another anchor used to be. It has a mix of high end and national chains. We were there yesterday and found a bunch of stuff on sale at American Eagle for DS. They also have a BIG "American Girl" doll store.

NorthPark has a lot of high end shops, and some of them are the only location in the SW or even in the US. I live across the street so I go there all the time. The parking lot is packed on a regular basis, so they appear to be doing well.

We also have Collin Creek that is an older mall and maybe not doing very well.

More north we have Willow Bend which was SUPPOSED to be all high end but that didn't work out for them. Last time I was there they had Payless shoes, a low cost dental clinic, and some other interesting tenants. I guess they have abandoned the idea of high end and are just hoping to survive.

Stonebriar is WAY north so if we go there it is like a field trip. But it's a nice mall. :)

Our malls are doing poorly. The big grandaddy of malls, Woodfield Mall is still going strong, mostly through reputation and tourist attraction.

Our local malls are all owned by Westfield and they're all generically the same. Our town has experienced huge retail growth in the past five years, so no mall for me! Got to love when the cornfields are replaced by Best Buy and all the chain restaurants.

Well, we had so many malls being built during the late 90's early 2000's. They saturated the market, then the market starts to tank and the malls go with it. Luckily, my two favorite Galleria and Northpark are going strong. Northpark will always be the best mall to me. Just love it there. We're going to brave the mall Saturday. Steven needs shorts and a coffee machine. It's a Macy's day.
