Hope someone can help me out!! I was talking to a friend of mine who lives in Cocoa Beach, FL. She said Disney was opening a resort hotel in the area to accomadate the cruise passengers. I guess this would be a great market for Disney. Just curious!! My friend wants me to see about getting a job there. Does anyone know if this is true?? Thanks,...Allison

WOW first I have heard of this ???
Shirley would know for sure since She is there ??

Oh Shirley ???

Sure would be nice to have a Disney Quality Hotel down there...

That'd be great but does Disney want to go through the expense of that when the bulk of ppl would only stay there Friday night, Saturday night or Wednesday night?

Hmmmm....interesting.

ohiominnie has a point; but some folks do come down a few days early and they could tie this in with excursions to Kennedy Space Center or Daytona. Or even time at the beach.
Interesting thought.

Would love to know more about this. I will try
to see if this is just rumor or if it has some merit
to it.

I think it would be a great idea. They could keep
it in a mid-range area for pricing, like Coronado,
Port Orleans and Caribbean Beach. Some suites
would be nice.

It would be a GREAT TIME to do so, that port is
going to get larger and larger and there are enough
ships coming in and out at different times to pick
up any slack.

They should have a cool incentive if you are going
on the DCL ships vs other cruise lines.......

There is alot to do in that area and as long as they
keep the service and ground really to Disney top
quality, I think it would work out and be a great
investment for Disney!!!

Please post if you hear anything else, I will post
if I hear anything official.

Have a AWESOME weekend

That would be awesome, but then people might opt not to go to WDW, which is really what they want right, land & sea!! But hey, what a great idea!

Don't forget there are 2 Disney properties not on Disney Property--DVB and DHH....neither "take away" business from WDW--they just help further the experience for those who for whatever reason don't wish to go to WDW.

The Disney Vacation Clubs at Vero Beach and Hilton Head are great timeshare resorts -- but they were both business failures for Disney. These resorts took way too long to sell out, requiring Disney to pay the carrying costs of the unsold inventory. Disney had to rent out the unsold inventory at far below typical Disney prices. Without the built-in customer base that the on-site DVC resorts enjoy, Disney's marketing costs at VB and HH were too high.

Disney stopped all subsequent off-site DVC projects, including the Newport Coast, Beaver Creek, New York City, and the next phase of Vero Beach.

Presumably, a Disney lodging property near Port Canaveral would not be a DVC resort. It would be primarily for one or two night stays before and after DCL cruises.

There's been nothing announced, so this is just a rumor at this stage.

My guess is that this rumor is just wishful thinking or guesswork based on a construction site that doesn't have a sign with another lodging company identified. I'll be very surprised if this rumor turns out to be true.

There has been NO LEAKS AT ALL of Disney building a resort here - first place just about ALL of Cape Canaveral is sewed up with new condos going up everywhere - the only place available is just before reaching the Radisson and there wouldn't be enough room - Now what I have heard is that the area where Grills' etc is - that area is being considered to being made into a type of a small mall with a resort by another large corporation - but it is just in the "lets see and talking" plans - I will call the mayor of Cape Canaveral tomorrow and see if he knows anything - Now several years ago we heard a rumor of Disney building a resort and that is all it was - for the area that was suppose to become this resort became very high end condo complex - anyhow will post tomorrow after I check it out.
Wish I could have said yep it's true, but knowing as many folks as I do, haven't heard about this one.
As always

After reading your posts I am sure my friend is talking about a rumor she heard,...probably months and months ago. It is wishful thinking on both our parts because I would really like to move to the area. I have two degrees in the hospitality field and I would love to live in Cocoa Beach and work for a great company like Disney, (without the commute to Orlando every day). Again, wishful thinking but there is no telling what the future will bring. Thanks for you're help,...Allison

it would be nice - and they could cater to all cruise passengers, not just DCL - and also have shuttles/tours to the Kennedy Space Center, etc. - nice but I doubt we'll be so lucky :(

Hello Allison,
I am unhappy to report that at this time there is no plans for a Disney Resort here - me I believe they should have done so for it would have tied in to the Magic and the Wonder at the port.
Anyhow if I ever catch wind of anything, will sure post it -
As I said I heard that rumor way back -
Now with Ron Jon growing leaps and bounds, who to say something won't happen. Cape Canaveral is growing so fast that land is filling up with condos - when I moved here a long time ago, who would have said this would happen.
Anyhow will keep in touch
As always
Shirley
