New Dinner Entitlement Program for DDP

I realize this is simplified and probably not based 100 percent on values and thus may be open to interpretation; however, it does give a rough estimate on the value of each credit if paying for the dining plan. It may help someone deciding if the DDP is good for their family.
Thanks for this analysis.. I think it is very helpful in making that decision.

Why do you think they are offering this for just the beginning of the Plan and not the whole time....Did they just oversell the first couple of weeks? It says it ends Sept 4th, but there are 3 more weeks of the free dining after that?

Just wondering what everyone thought???? :goodvibes

I think its cool, just one more way to use our credits. If we don't feel like eating when its time for our ADRs its nice to know we can just go at a CS and get a couple of snacks to boot. I hope they keep this option as part of the dining plan. :thumbsup2

I don't agree with your assumption that Disney is offering an even swap therefore I don't agree with any of your algebra. There isn't any way Disney is valuing a snack at $4, that's the maximum list price of included snacks. Why don't you start with the maximum value of a TS meal, over $50 and assume a negative value for the snack and CS meal?

For non-Disney restaurants you can watch them ring up the bill and actually see what Disney is paying the restaurant. For 2005 the CS meals were valued at just over $8, the TS meals were valued at around $22+15% tip or about $25 and the snacks were valued at around $2.

I did some of that math with the kids credit and just thought it was best left as a "good value."

The "algebra" isn't meant to be right on, but if it helps some people visualize, it is all right. I know that CS meals valued at 13.00 are few and far between, so your math probably makes more sense.

I AGREE but the program being quoted in this thread is only available 8/15-9/4. It's a reaction to Disney "overselling" the plan.
You say "reaction" -- I say "response." The reality is that no one has ever reported that, at 5PM of any night, every single (real) TS restaurant, in every single resort and park, was fully booked. Until a number of people report that this is the only option available to them, without excusing themselves from having to travel to an available restaurant due to their lack of planning, it looks to me that this is simply giving people a choice -- a choice that is being given in acknowledgement of the fact that more often than normal, guests who didn't plan ahead will need to travel to some other resort to take advantage of their Dining Plan.

FYI - I was there at the start of free dining paying OOP. Spoodles wasn't half full for breakfast and Captain Jacks may have been half full for lunch. My "advice" for people NOT on the DDP during free dining would be the same to those who are on DDP but have not made ADRs, try to run counter to the DDP optimizers, just like you try to run counter to crowds at the parks. Enjoy a good table service non character breakfast outside the parks before you hit the park. Consider TS for lunch too either outside the park or at a TS that doesn't quite get the bang LeCellier does. Try CS for dinner, maybe the lines have gone down.
